Please help: map frozen on Go630

Postby Vinceg » Sat Jan 28, 2012 11:45 pm

hello,
i got a Tomtom Go 630, navcore 8.351 and map France 880.310, autoactivate run and ok
when started, i can touch the screen on volume (as no itinary, she says, i am arrived) and on the status bar to see reception.
but, when i touch the screen on the map itself to enter in differents menus, the screen freeze and finally reboot alone...
do you have any idea? wrong navcore? TTsystem? Mapsettings. cfg, wrong map or corrupted (3810--->38xxx)
thanks for your help

The Navcore is, same for the map if you mean 3810.
Have you checked the tutorial section for rebooting tips already?

hello,
yes i checked the tutorial section and tried the 3 described methods without any success: argggggggg !!
so now to come back in a safe situation, i delete all files and directories, i put back the map Western Europe 810.1907, the navcore 8.351_9982 (downloaded) and all is working so, i guess that TTsystem, mapsettings.cfg, map and navcore are OK

I add manually, the map USA and Mexico 880.3810 (no mapSettings.cfg inside), run fastactivate (choices meta.txt then map) ok
normally, the new map should be activated and available; But not: still no mapsettings.cfg
you will probably say me "copy your old mapsettings to the USA folder.. OK but no.. it does not work: i read that the coding of mapsettings differs between map 810 and map 880.
and with tomtom Home (2.8.2.2264) i can not operate the go 630; then, impossible to create a new mapsettings.
my TTHome was previously in last version (2.8.3.2458) but it is known as with bug and does not create this mapsettings file anymore....

anyone has an idea ??

If you try to keep your favourites from such old maps the best option is to use something like PoiEdit and export all into a POI file.
Best thing about it: it is no longer a mapsettings.cfg and can be transfered from map to map and even to other devices.
Only other trick you could try is to select the new map and add a dummy favourite.
Now connect to PC and replace the mapsettings.cfg with your old backup.
Start Home and add a dummy favourite or rename one of yours.
Exit the simulation and disconnect, you now might be lucky enough to have a working mapsettings.cfg with new map.

1. You will not have a mapsettings.cfg file in a new map until you enter data, that requires the file to be created.

2. I have no such problem with TT Home 2458

Current status:
on a SD card plugged into my pc (faster for transfer) i put map western europe 810.1907, and navcore 8.351_9982.
with tomtomHome 2.8.2.2264, i can operate the map
next step, i copy the USA and mexico 880.3810
tomtomhome see the map but says it is not activated: i can still operate the go 630
i launch fastactivate: meta.txt then map
tomtomhome sees now both maps (Western Europe and USA) but is not able to operate both cards !!
i run again fasactivate and run tomtomhome patch!
now ! i can operate BOTH maps !! Eureka !!!!!!!!!
next and last try! plug the SD card into the go 630 and check if it is still working !
i will update you in some minutes and hope to close this thread !!
