So I guess I'll have to get used to it, as I'm not very sure about the benefit of flashing it.

Yeah, I've found no way to solve it. It's a drag but the device is still functional.

I personally reckon it just has to be something regarding the USB.
One test could be to try on another PC, another USB cable, a different USB port or all of the above?

I've already tried different USB ports on my PC, front and back, USB 2/3, with different USB cables, including the original one that came in the TT box. No improvement found.
Also tried to shutdown A/V and Firewall, with internet connexion down.
I still have to try with another PC, but the only other one I have is a laptop (my main gear is a desktop), which is a bit slow regarding USB transfers. But still worth the shot...

Quick update :
I've tried a map copy with a pretty recent laptop.
It took 5 hours, a bit better, but no miracle. Might only be that the new map is 200 Mb smaller than the previous one.

I think you will have to do with this, a device of a friend of mine who I also regularly provide with a new map, the Benelux also takes an hour or two.
The quality of the cable can also have an influence.

Yes, I'll guess so. Luckily I don't change map every week.
