If you still have a 890.4222 map installed, then YES there should be ALG.

I've succesfully updated my TomTom XL30 32mb device using Downunder's 9.450 "backup". I'm using map UK & ROI 890.4222.

The process :-

1. Made a backup of my current device using Windows Explorer.
2. Copied in the new 890 map folder onto the device and created the DCT file using Fastactivate.
3. Deleted all other folders and files.
4. Copied in Downunder's backup (& my 3 speedcam files).
5. Switched on the device on and prayed !!

Worked first time.

Comments :-

On using the device for the first few times, moving through the menus was painfully slow. It re-booted a few times. This is mentioned in Post 1. Be patient! Everything settles down eventually.

I used to have between 3 & 5.5mb of RAM using Navcore 8.414 (minimal usage of "extras"). I now have between 7 & 8.9mb. Mostly, it's around 8.5mb. A noticeable difference.

Loquendo TTS is working fine.

Map & QuickGPSfix updates are working fine in TT Home.

ALG is not working (as mentioned in an earlier post in this thread).

I can get into the "Status Bar Preferences" option but ticking/unticking the 3 boxes makes no difference. Everything is permanently displayed.

There is an annoying cry of "Hooray" when you reach your final destination. The device must have realised that my wife was driving at the time.

I can't use the "Operate my device" option in TT Home. Map not compatible.

Please feel free to ask me any questions.
Thanks to Navitotal for yet another brilliant job.

Did you patch TT Home?

No I didn't... oops.
Sorted now.
Thanks.

I'm going to test 9.450 over the next few weeks to see how it compares with 8.414.
I'll report back in due course.

Test away. You will find 9.450 far superior to 8.414.

The "hurray" at destination is a "gimmick" I added to my modified Loquendo voices.
If you don't like it you can of course change it to something you like more.
Check my posting about Loquendo modifications ;)

Thanks for the advice. Something else for me to play & have fun with.

Does ALG work on your 32mb device?

Just a quick word on how 9.450 is performing.
Every time that I connect to TT Home, perform an update, disconnect and then switch on, the device only has about 4.4mb of RAM. The device has to be rebooted (automatically or manually) about 3 times before being usable. Each time it reboots, the RAM increases. It usually settles at between 8 and 9mb. It's been as high as 13mb. OK, the rebooting problem is frustrating but something that I can easily live with.

Should TomTom.mnu work with this version of Navcore?
I copied in my old file (3 menu screens). All I saw on startup was 6 icons (e.g. change colours, change startup image, change shutdown image). I'm sure that I've read about an alternative to Gregory Duncan's excellent little menu maintanance utility.

Do another clean install of the Navcore, leave the map and voices on the device.
Start the device and do the usual setup.
Create a demo route and start the demo.
Once you notice the menu is quick and responsive you can end the demo and turn the device off.
The swapfile should work better now with no reboots.

A custom menu will work but some items can't be addressed by that, so start with only changing the first page and work your way up.

OK. I'll have a try. I haven't been able to run a demo when the RAM is as low as 4.4MB.
I presume that I have to keep the swap file that was included in your backup.

I notice that there isn't an icon to hide/show lane images and I can't see any reference to IQ routes.
Is there a way to resolve these issues?

Thanks.

Both are features of the map.

1. Go to Main Menu, Change preferences, Advanced preferences page 2, check "Show Lane Images".
2. Go to Main Menu, Change preferences, Planning preferences, IQ Routes in the lower left corner, check "Enable (recommended).

1. I do not have an Advanced Preferences icon or anything that mentions "AP".
2. It does not mention IQ routes in Planning Preferences (only "fastest route").

I'm surprised that I can only see the "old style" menu icons (the one's that came with the device). Also, I thought that I would see more icons (e.g. ability to change speedcam distances).

I created a new TomTom.mnu file with 5 icons on one Page.
The device displayed 6 icons, none of which appear in my mnu file.

The re-booting problem that I experienced (every time that I connect to TTHome) goes away if I wait a few minutes on startup. You can see the RAM increasing, sometimes up to an impressive 13mb.
Thereafter, when I switch the device on, I can start doing things immediately. When I get the time, I will re-install files & folders.

For info....

If there is a Main Menu page to change the emulation, try X40 or X50.

X40 = No visible difference.
X50 = Kept on re-booting. Never managed to get to the menu's.
