NavCore 9.205.547817 Auto-Day/Night Feature?

Postby lumkichi » Sat Oct 23, 2010 2:58 pm

I'm normally a technical person and love to hack things up, to get them to work to my preferences. But this TomTom is a new concept to me; and I am completely clueless as to what this particular thing does, what the difference is between x10, x20, x30 etc are, what a sdid is why there is a usesetting if there is already a sdid. I feel utterly useless, and stupid because despite your seemingly helpful hints, I cannot comprehend what you are saying.

I am looking at post 13. I really am; but what seems to be "intuitively obvious" to most veterans has escaped me entirely. I believe you are giving "hints" as to what these settings do, and are telling me I need to guess at which settings based I should use on your hints. (there really isn't anything in this post that says, "Lum, write your setconfig file with these exact settings a-- b-- c--, to make it go night/day aware and make the keypress lags go away.") A statement that says "This is a proper key setup" is ambiguous. Do I have the proper settings, or are you saying it can be addressed with a proper setup? If so, what IS the proper setup to address the keypress lag? Are you explicitly telling me that if I set up the switches, then everything will take care of itself? It really doesn't say; and I'm no further to a satisfactorily performing TomTom.

So, I'm going to try with the following setconfig.txt - please tell me (through this 20 questions game I am now having to play) if I have them appropriate?

setconfig.txt

model:x50
changedtext:TomTom XL 330
ttsoff
noautooutsource

model.txt:
x50

I will not use version.txt and no cycle.txt. Is this correct?

I thought I made it pretty clear in post 13.

Another thing I don't understand

Postby lumkichi » Sat Oct 23, 2010 3:24 pm

When I upgraded the 8.083 Navcore the first time, I had nearly 72mb free. After the upgrade to 9.205, I had about the same.

But after using this for a week or two I backed my TomTom up before I downgraded. After I put my TomTom back to Navcore 8.083, I again had around 72mb free. But now as I try to put the 9.205 backup back onto the TomTom, I am finding that I only have 2mb free... This thing is starting to bloat on me, and I cannot understand why - I only downloaded 1 voice file, and a POI update file or something...

Anyhow, I now have my TomTom back to 9.205.

Currently it is 11:15 am where I am. I have set the XL330's time to 9:16 pm (should be dark enough outside, don't you think?). I restarted the Tomtom.

I am looking at a screen that says "9:16 pm" with bright daytime colors...

I think this is a case of "you can't help everyone," and "one size doesn't fit all." The keypress issue seems to be a little bit better, but I have no space left on my TomTom to load the voices, so I am operating without voice alerts.

For me, this is unacceptable -- so I am going to spend the next 90 minutes setting it back to the original NavCore - so I can get back to square one. As far as I am concerned, Navcore 9.205 WILL RUN on a TomTom XL 330, but its features are NOT compatible with it, and its performance deteriorates - so I cannot recommend this configuration to anyone. NavCore 9.205 might run great on other TomTom's; I do not know - I don't have the other ones. All I know is that I am unhappy with it on mine.

Tendriver, thank you for your valiant efforts in trying to help. Unfortunately, I don't think you would be able to help in my case. From your message posts, I surmise you are a developer. You know your stuff and perhaps might have coded up a lot of hacks and tricks - but your words are just not reaching me.

Thanks much anyway.

See posts 13 & 17.

If your unit has TTS, Bluetooth and/or FM, you can delete those lines also.

You did - but I believe my eyes are playing tricks on me. I swear that when I read this post the first time, I did not see the word "Delete" in red. All I saw were the blue verbiages, and the two red statements near the top.

As far as the "855.2931" map with the "8.083" navcore - you say it should be compatible, but what I get is "This map cannot be used with...." or something like that. I tried the Fast Activate and AutoActivate programs both; and restarted the TomTom and it gave me the same message. This is what prompted me to try to upgrade the NavCore in the first place.

I am deleting all the files from the TomTom at the moment.

Then I am going to put on the original files - and start from there, once again. I am going to download some other NavCore in hopes that it'll work satisfactorily "out-of-the-box."

Once I get to a usuable NavCore, I'm going to attempt the map upgrade. It's just this process is massively painful as the TomTom isn't very fast at writing files; it takes 10 or 20 megabytes - then freezes for 30 seconds to a minute. I suppose it's doing something to commit the data to the filesystem, but I can't navigate around it using Explorer or DOS while it's doing this. I suppose this is atypical, and I might have a connection problem? (perhaps...)

I didn't say "should be", I said, "it is" compatible. The message, you are getting, is telling you that either the NC or map isn't patched.

BTW, some of your comments in post 16 didn't win you any points.. I almost closed the thread, after I read it.
