Ok, well a dedicated TomTom Truck device should come with a truck navcore (operating system) and a truck map

What you've got there is a car device that someone has installed a truck navcore with a very old car map.

So if you just want to update the UK & ROI car map to a newer one, that's fine, it's a small 263MB download and you'll have enough space on the device to contain it.
However, if you want to have the full European truck map it's a much bigger 3.16GB download and you won't have the space required, so you'll need to buy a good quality SD card.

Obviously, the full truck map will have all of the necessary truck attributes (height & width restrictions etc) relating to trucks but the car map won't...so the choice is yours

hi fredderf thanks for getting back to me.
i see, yes i need it for all the weight/height restrictions etc.

No, a class 4 card will be far too slow for use in a satnav...you really need a class 10 card 8GB minimum

Perfect...now you just need to download the truck map which you can download from one of the links here

hi i have downloaded the map, do i simply add it to the memory card or do i need to go through a process to activate it?

You need to activate it...

but first you need to download FastActivate from here
and set Windows Explorer to show all hidden files & folders

My preferred method:

1. Copy ALL of the contents from the internal drive to the SD card (but delete the old UK & ROI map afterwards)
2. Extract the truck map to the SD card
3. Extract FastActivate.exe to the SD card
4. Run FastActivate.exe from the SD card & select options 2 then 3 (waiting for successful messages each time)
5. Disconnect device from PC and test

ahh brilliant i think i have it cracked, so now with this map it should work just as a dedicated truck nav in relation to height restrictions etc?
