Help with One XL please

Thu Jun 10, 2010 1:51 am

Background: I have older TT One XL with 8.010 Navcore. Tried to update to 9.026. D/L Basicpack and SE. Extracted both to 4GB SD card plus your Samantha Vocalizer TTS and maps NA 845.2645 to created folder North_America_845_2645. All went well except that my Bootloader 5.3026 cannot read SD cards. Backed up everything from TT device and after deleting from TT device, I tried to copy SD card to the device itself but there wasn't enough space so I put the backup back to the device. Works fine except that I'm back to where I started.

Questions: Is there a way to put TTS on 8.010? I can't find any entries "ttsoff" to delete. I know it's not recommended but is there any way to update my bootloader to a version that can read SD cards?

if your talking about LoquendoTTS voices,
only 64 MB RAM devices can handle them....

i believe your TT One XL has 32 MB RAM... so....

@ eskro: For 32 MB devices, there is VocalizerTTS in stead of LoquendoTTS (see: http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?1133-TTS-Vocalizer-voices-(also-Dutch-Italian-and-German)).

@ chas51: You can upgrade your bootloader to 5.022 or 5.128, so your XL is able to see the 4GB SD-card. In order to use TTS, you need an SE NavCore (or a NC that officially supports TTS, but the 8.010 does not). But I would recommend to use the SE 8.562 or the SE 8.544 on your ONE XL. You were unable to find the ttsoff switch because I think your 8.010 is an official one (e.g. not a SE one) and switches are applicable only to SE versions.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it can be done by updating the bootloader but where do I find that bootloader update and I would imagine it's a dangerous operation because you could brick your device if anything goes wrong. Also how do I do it? Are there any instructions? I imagine it would be better reading from the SD card to update the device without messing with the internal drive unless I could find maps for the individual states I need. But I never found them like that.

system - Bootloader 5.5128 (OneXL) Original

Just extract and replace old system with this one

5.5128 should be fine on your device ;)

Thanks guys. Everything seems to work now but it is verrrrry slow. My SDHC card is 4GB class4. Is the card the problem causing it to be slow? Should the card be a higher class for more speed? Could I remove some cspeech files in the map section for the states I don't need? Would that speed it up? Another problem now. Every time I try to change the voice in settings the device just restarts without letting me do anything. Samantha TTS voice is also not working. What's up?:wallbash:

a Class 4 card is fast enough....
and deleting cspeech files wont speed up your device....
tell me, your talking about LoquendoTTS or VocalizerTTS?

I NEVER had this much trouble with any of the iGO products! Not only is it slow but I went outside and it wouldn't pick up a satellite. Turned it off, removed the SD card and it picked up a satellite almost immediatlely. I d/l 9.051 and we'll see how that works. Stay tuned.

on NavCore 9.026, the one i have now,
i too have problems picking up satellites at some point....

i mean, it does eventually, but it was picking up way faster
when NavCore 9.051 was installed....

i often have to re-plan my route
so that it finds the satellites.....

i'm probably gonna install NavCore 9.051 again....

Just so you know, 9.051 appears to have done the trick. The program now runs at the correct speed. Tomorrow I'll take it on the street and see if the TTS operates. Incidentally, I forgot to remove "ttsoff". Will that stop the TTS? What happens if I change it to "ttson?" I'll post my results. BTW, 9.026 was the problem.

NavCore 9.026 is designed for 64MB RAM devices...
thats probably why you had slowdown issues...

On the other hand,
NavCore 9.051 is also designed for 64MB RAM devices but,
there's a version of it called --> Basic Pack
Which is modified to work with 32MB RAM devices...
And thats the one i've linked you too!

So, overall, i think your good to go :)

You can not have ttson + ttsoff together only 1 of them if you want tts use ttson ;)
