Help with favorites transfer to new map

Postby fenlon » Wed May 04, 2011 3:42 am

Device Info
TT One v2
App 8.412
OS: 303268

OLD Map:
USA and Canada 675.1409

New Map
USA and Canada 865.3261

I copied old mapsettings.cfg to new map folder, following the instructions on this Tutorial
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2156-How-To-Keep-your-Favorites-When-Upgrading-Map

I got the boot loop so attempted to:
* Connect your Tomtom to Home and choose "operate my Device" ,
* Now add a random address or location to your favourites,
* This will rewrite the file mapsettings.cfg to the right format and you get rid of the re-booting loop without losing your favourites!

But when I choose operate my Device, I get this error on the emulator screen:

Problem with map
You cannot use this map
on this device:
USA_and_Canada-308
[OK]

OS & Software:
Windows 7 64bit
TomTom Home 2.8.1.2218

If I missed any info, let me know.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Are you patched your TomTom HOME ?

If not then download FastActivate Premium and run it and use TomTom HOME button

I believe it is patched. I have run Fast Activate Premium v1.8 from the root of SD card and clicked TomTom HOME. It says it is patched, but I still get the same error.

Do you use .bif & .bak files ?

Look this folder what is your installed profile folder inside it ( eg. [email protected] )
With XP
C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\ApplicationData\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensions
With Vista or Windows 7
C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\TomTom\HOME\Profiles\xxxxxxxx .default\extensions

If you have problems save all your favourites from old map as POIs & then transfer the POIs to new map. The mapsettings.cfg file does not always work when transferring from such an old map.
Does your Tomtom work with the new map without using the old mapsettings.cfg file ?

I have located the extension folder
[email protected]
8-412-1236-1.dll.OLD and 8-412-1236-1.dll are located there, but I see no .bif or .bak files.

The map works fine with out the old mapsettings.cfg file.

Thank you for all your help.

OK, seems like all is fine...so favorite trick not works all case.... maybe file is created with too old navcore or something else

other solution is [Please Register or Login to download file]
you can open mapsettings.cfg and save as POI file

Everything must be patched correctly then - so it's just the old mapsettings.cfg file that is causing the problem. Use the "save as POIs" method to transfer your favourites.

I think the problem is much easier :
The version 6 maps are not compatible with the new ones.
A direct transfer from a V6 to a V8 map might not work at all.
But you can use a POI Editor to export all your favourites from the old mapsettings.cfg into normal POI's.
You can make a category like "private" and save all you old favourites in there.
This way you will never have problem with your favourites again.
