1. So with little left to lose (this sat-nav was a freeby), I wiped the SD card and started again.
I connected to TTHome to download the latest app for it (7.903).
Then following the advice above, downloaded UK+RoI 880.3868 with automatic installer.
Then downloaded FastActivate and kick-started it all into life.

Well, it's worked! I've got the maps working (havn't got a signal yet) and the new roads in the area are on it.
2. Two minor things though, there's a problem with the postcodes, can only put half a code in, and
3. I can't make me own splash screen.
4. Anyway, thanks for the help, just needed a push in the right direction. Donation inbound :)

1. Starting over was the reason I asked about a backup.
2. All New Maps 880.XXXX Look in post 1 just under the compatibility chart for the fix to your post code issue.
3. Why not?
4. You are Welcome. Thanx for the donation.

This thread is concerning a TT One V4, not a Binatone. I believe you might have misread post 1.

Cool, Postcodes now all working :)
I tried making a splash screen, saved it as splash.bmp and dropped it in SD card root. Nowt happened.
So re-named it as splashw.bmp as suggested in some threads, still not working.
I can't find an original s/s file either, and currently have no s/s working. Not a problem, just nice to have it right.

AlertPay currently not accepting Visa, AMEX only, will check back later.

The good folk here helped me install Igo8 onto a vintage Binatone X350, with a bit of pushing in the right direction I worked it out.

But my latest challenge, trying to update a TT One V4 is causing me a headache.

Seems I'm a numpty. my bad guys

Did you follow these instructions to create your splash screen?

Standard screen devices
You can create a new start-up image using a graphics program such as Photoshop.
1.

Create an image of 320 x 240 pixels in size (RIDER, ONE, GO Classic, GO 300/500/700).

2.

Save the image as a 24 bit bitmap file with the filename splash.bmp.

3.

Replace the splash.bmp file in the root of your TomTom device with the new image file.

BTW, the W in splashw.bmp means that it is for a wide screen device.

Yep, followed that to the letter. I've put a pic in the root of the SD card, but can't find the original.
Can't find it in any of the folders either.
When I switch the TomTom on and off, there's no splash screen, just grey screen.
Unless I press the reset button, then I get the TomTom screen and the bongo noise. So the TomTom splash screen is still there, I just can't find it!

AlertPay still not accepting Visa :(

1. Confirm that you followed these instructions for your picture:
Selecting an image from your photo gallery as a start-up image
You can easily use one of the images in your photo gallery as a start-up image.
1.
Upload a photo to your TomTom navigation device using TomTom HOME.

2.
Tap Change preferences in the Main Menu of your TomTom device.

3.
Tap Start-up preferences.

4.
Tap Done.

You are asked whether you want to change the startup image.
5.
Select your new startup image.

You won't find it.

Looks like this won't work with this TT. In TTHome, the bit for uploading photos is shaded out, if I click on it message says 'this function not compatible with your device' or summit like that.

Funny thing is, I can download one of the ones already available on TTHome (other peoples) but can't seem to make my own work???

Forget TT Home. Label your photo XXX.bmp (not splash.bmp) & copy it into the photo folder on your device. Then do steps 2 thru 5

When I tap 'Done' in step 4, it goes straight back to the map screen, and doesn't ask if I want to change the photo.

The pic I uploaded from TTHome has in the ART folder (there wasn't an art folder before uploading this) as a .TLV image.
Is this relevent?

1. Confirm that your photo is in the photo folder.
2. EVERY navcore has an ART folder. That is where the "vehicle/car icons" are located.
3. No.

Hi, yep my photo is in the ART folder. Currently saved as T25.bmp.

Confirm that you meant, "Hi, yep my photo is in the photo folder".

Wed Dec 21, 2011 7:21 pm

No, there was neither an ART or PHOTO folder before I started messing with the spalsh screen. I then downloaded a pic from TTHome, this created a new folder in the SD card root called ART.

I've tried putting my pics into this ART folder and also direct into the SD card root.

Still don't have a PHOTO file :(
