Formatting old map on Micro SD Card

Postby naviboy » Thu Aug 25, 2011 3:15 pm

I am trying to format an Micro SD card which has a SatNav map on it.

Using an Micro SD Adaptor and a Card reader, I can see the files on the card and the the formatting will start thens tells me 'Windows cannot complete the formatting', if I put this into my Media reader card slot on my Laptop its does not the SD or its content, if I use another Standard SD card in the slot it reads the contents, so saying the slot is OK.

Would the card be protected by the maufacturer against rewriting etc.

Any clues why I can't format or read.

thanks

You should never format a SD card for no good reason.
Now that the damage is done, try the formatter from [Please Register or Login to download file]
Use the standard setting the program provides.

Have you used the card in an older Nokia phone?

Thanks,

The card has only been used as a SatNav.

Will try the SDcard link.

OK

Tried SDFormatter, no joy. Saying the card is 'write protected' and yet its not. Tried switching the adaptor switch both ways.

thanks

Then you should invest a few bucks a buy a new one, seems the SD is dead and for the price it is not really worth risking it.

Sounds like the card's hardware protection is on, Older Nokia phones were known for doing this, You can buy hardware to correct it, but it's cheaper to buy a new card.
