FastActivate not working

Postby robmcc83 » Sat Aug 22, 2020 1:54 pm

Hi,
I have just found this website and i was looking to unleash a little more life in my tom tom one 3rd edition.

Ive looked through this forum for the best outcome on this tom tom.

it appears the latest best navcore version for this tom tom is 9.541 (correct me if im wrong) it was running 8.010 before that but that was the official from tom tom.

ive backed up as per instructions and put on navcore 9.541.

after that i replaced my map from the backup i did and everything works fine.

What i want to do now is update the map i have choose a map which i believe is the right suited map uk 1050_10177 copied it over after removing my old map which is version 700something and copied fastactivate to the root internal storage.

when i run fastactivate it briefly loads for a few seconds then closes, thats it cant do anything.
Ive tried to run as administrator and windows 7 compatiblity mode but none of these work the app will just not launch.

I am on windows 10 x64 and would really appreciate some help.

Thanks

As I said in the other thread, just make sure your NC 9.541 is not the official one as it is intended for 64MB RAM models only...use a specially modified NC that includes a built in swap file so it'll run properly with a 32MB RAM model using advanced maps such as 1050.10177.

FastActivate = temporarily disable your anti-virus and try again

Hi Thanks for your quick response.

Firstly i grabbed the NC 9.541 from this site somwhere, i believe it was a link from a thread of somebody asking a similar question (not sure i have the right one now) how would i no?

In regards to the fast activate i already tried with anti virus disable but i have just read the readme txt that came with it and it says if the user name on the computer has special characters it can halt.
My pc username is sara & rob so i believe this to be the reason why. im waiting for my daughter to text me her password for her pc so i can try it in there.

Thanks in advance

Look in the root of your device and see if you can find a file called 'swap'

Ok, hopefully that'll do it then

So last thing just to clarify and i think ill be able to sort it from here.
Say for example i was to experience any problems with the NC 9.541 and wanted to revert to the original 8.010 which would be the best suited latest map to use for that navcore.

Looking at the chart and trying to make sense of it, it appears 1050_10182 would be best but im no expert lol as i dont no what hnr,tts etc means im just looking at the ones that are recent and have the most green ticks for the specific navcore version.

Thanks

You can use any map that shows as being compatible on the chart (and it must have a meta code too of course) so yes, 1050.10182 would be fine although not ideal as that map still includes some advanced features your device can't use which'll consume RAM unnecessarily. 1050.10226 is a limited featured map with no advanced features at all so would be leaner and more suitable.

Have a look at the compatibility chart tutorial which'll answer a lot of your questions: topic19485.html

Thats helped massively.

So as my tom tom doesnt have built in microphone i can pick a map that doesnt include asr, cspeech etc to hopefully elimanate any slow down or problems of the device

Cheers

Btw, does the clock on your device work properly...probably not?

If not, read this page to fix it: topic21253.html

The 'cannot use this map on this device' error usually means that the map has not been activated successfully.

Download a fresh copy of FastActivate from here > extract it to the root > locate & run FastActivate.exe in the root > select option 2 to activate the map > it should say ***.DCT = Ok (meaning the map has been activated) > disconnect & try it again
