Ok, thanks to djc i have these great instructions which im following exactly only im generating the DCT with easyusetools as my anti-virus will not ignore tomtom4.exe long enough to even extract it:

• Download [Please Register or Login to download file] and copy the complete contents to your device.
• Download SE_ttsystem.9.026.483454 and copy the ttsystem file to your device overwriting when prompted (No need to patch anything yet as the SE navcore is pre-patched)
• Download your required map United Kingdom & Republic of Ireland 850.2781
• When downloaded extract the files to a folder in the root of your device named United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of _Ireland_850_2781.
• Download and extract Keygen 4.1D to a folder on your PC
• Download THIS meta.txt and copy it to your keygen folder overwrighting when prompted
• In the keygen folder run this file “Tomtom4.exe” (If you use vista or Win7, Right click and run as admin), In the keygen press button “Make map keys” > “Create DCT’s” This will write a .dct for all maps/voices/cams ect on your device.
• Shut down the keygen, Disconnect device, Reeboot device and you will have a working unit

After completing the process the TT doesn't boot correctly, it hangs at the "tomtom" logo. Ive never had this issue in the past with different TT's and wonder whether its possibly something to do with the bootloader? (something ive never had to think about or understand in the past)
Here's the original configeration of the working TT:

DeviceName=TomTom XL
DeviceVersionHW=ONE XL (v9)
RamDiskVersion=20090514
BootLoaderVersion=55136
LinuxVersion=315726
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8081
ApplicationVersion=9664

Any ideas?
