Advice on Completely updating a TomTom One XL

Postby Oxide777 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 6:17 pm

Thanks mrlongest, glad I could help :D

What fixed my quickgpsfix issue was updating ttgo.bak with
ApplicationVersionVersionNumber=8010
ApplicationVersion=9369
If you haven't tried that yet.

Besides mapshare still not realising I have maps installed and hence not giving me updates, everything is running excellently. This site and tendriver have helped tremendously :D

I'm not doubting your statement, but quickgpsfix will update with or without a ttgo.bak file.

Open TT Home. Click on Tools, HOME preferences & the folders tab. In windows explorer follow the path shown for the Downloads folder, then complete & ephemeris. There should be a list of all the QuickGPSfix updates. Open any of the update folders, except the most current one. Open the Ephermeris.cab & copy the 2 files. In windows explorer open your device, open the ephem folder, delete the contents & paste in the 2 copied files. Disconnect the device from the puter, shut down & reboot it. Shut it down, connect to puter, boot it & run Update my device.

2. Confirm that there is an ephem folder in the XL's root.
3. No. Plenty here: Tutorials

1. I don't remember the precise details now. The OSD Driving View was my main reason for not adopting the later navcores: e.g. the direction arrow was smaller and no longer located at the top (with a vertical Status Bar). Also the menus in 8.204 did everything I wanted. ("If it aint broke dont fix it"!).
2. I'm quite happy not using TTHome for QuickGPSfix. I use instead a small script on my SD card that downloads the QuickGPSfix data files directly from the TT site into the card's ephem folder.
3. OK, it was a just a passing thought!
Thanks for your interest tendriver: it is appreciated.

Thanks oxide777. Like you, everything on my setup is running excellently. And as you may see from my post 33, my workaround means QuickGPSFix updates rapidly, indeed more rapidly since TTHome isn't needed. (A little while ago I worked with this site's moderators on my QuickGPSFix problem - tried many approaches, ttgo.bif included; unfortunately none of which worked consistently).

If you are happy, then Navitotal is happy, although I don't see the advantage, since you still have to use TT Home for mapshare.

Hi, I'm back and still have the mapshare issue where it's not updating :(

I've updated to Europe West 870 3406.

When I go to manage my device in tthome, no maps appear but other things installed on the device do (like voices, gpsfix etc) I think this is the reason why when I go to mapshare preferences within TThome, there is nothing to select in the select countries tab and hence why no mapshare updates get received.

Also in TThome I remember it used to say you have 300 or whatever mapshare updates and I have no TThome extensions installed. Don't I need a mapshare extension installed within TThome?

Other than that everything else is working superbly but would really like mapshare updates please.

Confirm that your unit is functioning normally with this map.
There is no such thing as a mapshare extension.

Hi tendriver :)

Yes the map works perfectly, along with recent postcodes, speedcams, fuels, VocalizerTTS_English__British__Serena and SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices. GPSFix updates are received within TThome - it's just mapshare that doesn't work :(

Confirm that you have verified that everything in TT Home, Tools, TomTom Mapshare are set correctly.

Thanks tendriver

Yes within TThome I am connected to the mapshare community however within the mapshare preferences only strict trust level is selected (and I can't select anything else) and there's no available countries in the select countries tab.

On the TomTom itself I have set map correction changes to many users

To me it all seems like it's configured correctly but TThome thinks there's no maps installed and hence won't load any map corrections :(

Is there anything you can think of to try?

1. Trusted sources is set on the unit & High in TT Home.

2. I am baffled by your map not showing up in TT Home, Manage my device, Items on device. Confirm that everything is on the card, with nothing on the XL's internal memory.

3. Have you tried running TT Home with the card in a card reader?

OK some interesting developments...

2: If I unplug the SD card, then the original data in the internal memory (1GB Western European maps) appears within TThome and mapshare correctly updates these maps ok. But if I plug the SD card back in then TThome doesn't show any maps are installed and map share doesn't find anything.

3: Sorry don't have a card reader but the SD card is a new Sandisk 2GB class 4 and appears to work fine.

Does this help? is it because I still have data on the internal memory that is causing the SD maps to not register within TThome correctly?

Please anyone help :) I don't think I've installed it any different as per instructions, does map share work for everyone else?

With the card in your unit, connect it to your computer. Run TT Home "Operate my device". GO to Main Menu, Change preferences, Switch maps. What map options do you have?
