Advice on Completely updating a TomTom One XL

Fri Jan 07, 2011 10:42 pm

It is a standard device with 8.010 navcore and 5.3026 bootloader

I have performed a backup via TTHome of the internal 1GB and ordered a Sandisk Ultra II 2GB SD card.

Am I right in thinking if I update it using SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices.rar (Widescreen ONLY) along with the 2 maps South_Africa_Swaziland_and_Lesotho_860_3108 & Europe_West_860_3101 that it will then work with the ASR, ALG and IQ routes features?

Will it also run smoothly? Do I need to install things likes voices, POI, postcodes, speedcams etc afterwards?

How do I update the bootloader? if it needs to be.

Excuse me but I'm very new to this. It is quite daunting and I appreciate your help :)

1. All correct.

2. Smoothly? Yes. Add ons are personal preferences.

3. Each navcore has it's own bootloader. It SHOULD install with the navcore. 9.205 B/L is 5.5250.

Thanks tendriver - this website is very informative :)

I can't wait for the new sd card to arrive so I can start playing.

Quick question - what's the difference between the 2 maps Europe_West_860_3101 & Western_Europe_860_3101 besides 600 megabytes? They appear to have the same maps but differ considerably in size :scratch_one-s_head_

You are Welcome. Some of the maps have gotten so big that TomTom has issued "Zone Maps". Western_Europe_860_3101 is one of the "too big" maps. Europe_West_860_3101 is a "Zone Map". You can read more here: [Please Register or Login to download file]

Finally the Sandisk Ultra 2GB SD card arrived - I have plugged it into the TT ONE XL but it is in FAT format

Do I need to format it to FAT32 before I start updating it with the auto navcore installer and then auto maps installer?

Formating is not necessary. Put a copy of your XL's ttgo.bif file on the card before any installations.

Sorry tendriver - I did a search and some people said to format to fat32 - which is now halfway and taking an age and only just saw your reply :(

Why may I ask, must I copy the ttgo.bif file before I start installing? I will, just curious is all :)

1. Some people are wrong, but no harm done. It makes no difference whether it is Fat or Fat32.
2. Map patching is device specific. The patcher reads the data in the ttgo.bif file to patch it for your device. No ttgo.bif file on the card, no patched map. Reference Note 4 here: FastActivate ENG 09.01.2011 {1.8.03}

I'm still copying over europe map and have done this so far:

1: Exit TTHome
2: Format SD FAT32
3: copy ttgo.bif from original TT backup to SD
4: Run SE_Navcore.9.205.547817_32mb_devices and point it to drive of SD
5: Run Map Installers (Europe_West_860_3101 and South_Africa_Swaziland_and_Lesotho_860_3108)

Next do I:
6: Copy the needed premium speedcam files (14.1.11) into the respective map directories
7: Copy voice files (voices_plus.rar) to voices folder on SD
8: Copy latest version of FastActivate or AutoActivate to root of SD and run it (prefer FA - ENG_FastActivate_09.01.2011_Premium_edition_v1.8)
9: Boot TT and check it opens ok
10: Patch TTHome after installing the dll file
11: Update TT using TTHome including mapshare data
Then all done?

6. OK
7. OK
8. Activator is included in map installer.
9. OK
10. Patching TT Home is necessary only if you use "Operate my Device".
11. OK
Then all done? You should be!!

??????????

For the most part it works ok, it's just the fiddly bits now lol

Problems
1:Seems if I choose a voice then the sound works but if I then fiddle with warning sounds then all sounds and voices don't work until a reboot.

2: When I plan a route it says that IQ routes are disabled even though I downloaded the map version with IQ routes :(

3: I have copied over the voices I would like from the 140 voice pack - but only a few of them appear on the TT

Questions:
1: Does ALG on a One XL show the lane arrows at the bottom of the screen?

2: TTHome doesn't update mapshare corrections - is this normal?

Other than the above the maps are loaded and the OS seems to be functioning nice and smoothly with 5meg or so free :)

Ok after working my way through the options I have figured out Problem number 2 and Question number 1 from above

Any advice on the others?

Again this is fantastic and I really appreciate the effort you guys have put in to make the maps, navcores, speedcams, fuel prices and voices available

P1. I've not heard of this before.
P2. Main Menu, Change preferences, Planning preferences, Check "Always plan fastest routes", then click IQ Routes in lower left corner of that same screen & check Enable.
P3. Look at the voice metas in any up-to-date meta.txt. If any of your missing voices are listed, then they need patching.

Q1. Yes. There are 2 settings to check. #1 in Status bar preferences & #2 in Advanced preferences.
Q2. Is mapshare activated?
