GO 740 - 860 map installation problem

Wed Jan 05, 2011 8:24 am

Dear

I would like help to install 860 map on my go 740 device.
I give a try, and can't success.

My Device (working well, before try):

map 810
bootloader: latest available (I think 5.5.20, didn't have my device at work now)
navcore 9.058

Hardware thing:
I had a 4GB SDHC Card, except internal.dat on internal memory and autorun.inf, all date are exactly the same between internal memory and SD Card.
My computer is Win XP Pro SP3 fully updated, full administrator rights for current user, TTH 2.7.x

Downloaded:
Western and Central Europe 2GB 860.3101
FastActivate 1.8.02
AutoActivate 1.5.02 Premium

What I do:
* backup internal and SD memory =)
* delete map directory on internal memory
* copy new 860 map contents to SD Card map directory
* copy FastActivate (also try with AutoActivate with same results) to SD Card (also try it to internal memory)
* run FastActivate/AutoActivate to patch map and ttsystem (tth is already patched): all seems correct with a lot of "OK - DCT file exist"
* I disconnect my Tomtom properly with tth

What happend:

* I restart my GO (also try full reboot with "tamtam" sound)
* the start screen appears, two steps of luminosity, then... nothing... endless (except when empty battery)

What I try:

* rename mapsettings in map directory, then restart: nothing
* try "Operate my GO" from TTH: I had "Innacurate map" message on the screen (red), it give me the choice to choose a map, but of course I only see the only one on the SD card. If I select/validate: nothing
* try to put back the 810 map on the internal memory only: nothing

At which steps does I do a mistake, or what's wrong ?

Thank's for your help

Vincent

Could you delete the mapsettings.cfg file (after a backup)? Also do a reset on the GO740 (with a paperclip).

Thank you for your intereset, Megalos.

I already try:
" * rename mapsettings in map directory, then restart: nothing"

the reset is done pressing more than 17 secondes on the power button for GO x40 (there is no reset hole), and that's what I done (most of time, when I say "restart", I mean "reset".

I can't see much wrong, and think your map folder has a correct name too.
Please check if you have a .dct file in your map folder to confirm the activation worked.
Try a hard rest - hold reset for 30sec. and after that three time the TT clear flash tool.
If still no joy re-install Navcore and map from scratch and patch/activate again.

You renamed the file, but did not delete it, right? Try deleting the file.

Megalos: I will give a try tonight

Downunder35m: I will also try the .dct file, and clear flash.

If nothing better, I will retry from scratch (my backup), and try an alternate patcher for TTSYSTEM.

Do you confirm 3101 is the right sub-version for my device ? (GO 740)

Thank's

Confirm that your desired setup is navcore 9.058 on the internal & Western and Central Europe 2GB 860.3101 on your SD card.
If so, with 9.058 & FastActivate 1.8.02 Premium on the internal, Western and Central Europe 2GB 860.3101 + the ttgo.bif on your SD card, the card in the 740 card slot, run 1.8.02 "maps/voices/speedcams" then "ttsystem/PNDNavigator". Confirm that a .meta.dct file is in the map folder. Disconnect & reboot.

Great ! reading your helps, one word coming again and again in my head: DCT file...
Back to home, I check the map directory, and found my mistake !
In fact, to preserve my POI and settings, I merge my actual map directory with the new map content, so the directory had 2 files of that kind: "Western_and_Central_Europe_2GB-XX.meta"
One for old map, one for new map.
When using the patch utilities, it looks only the presence of .DCT file in directory, and go ahead if more that one .meta is there.
I remove old .meta, and patch map again: it's working

Thank's a lot for your help and utilities =)

You are Welcome. Enjoy. Next time remember, NEVER MIX/MERGE MAP FILES!!!
