GO 720 update

GO 720 update

Postby turk » Thu Apr 20, 2023 1:39 pm

I have a GO720 that hasn't been used for awhile. I would like to use it as a back up. It seems to be having trouble finding the satellites and probably has an outdated map. TOMTOM home says it is no longer supported.
Is it still possible to use it or is it best to scrap. What should I do step by step to make it work? Thanks for your help.

Tried getting into updates but find trojan warning on files from Bayfiles for Universal Navcore installer. Is this a false warning?

Your navcore should be updated to 9.541:

TomTom wrote:Version 9.541

Released on 19 December 2018 This update applies to: XXL Classic, ONE IQ Routes, XL IQ Routes, XL IQR2 / XL Classic, GO 750, GO 750 LIVE, GO 950, GO 950 LIVE, GO 540 LIVE, GO 740 LIVE, GO 940 LIVE, GO 530, GO 630, GO 730, GO 930, GO 720, GO 520, GO 920, EASE, ONE 140, Start

• Maintenance release.
• This update prepares your navigation device for the week number rollover in April 2019 which has an impact on GPS.

[Please Register or Login to download file]

Do a full backup of your current setup > download the new 9.541 navcore and extract it straight over the top of your current setup (replacing all files it asks about) > re-patch it with FastActivate option 3

Read the tutorial on the Compatibilty Chart: topic19485.html

Decide on which map you want > download and extract it to the root of your device > run FastActivate.exe and select option 1 then 2 to activate it.

There are plenty of of other threads in General Discussion which will give you more detail if you have a look for them

Resetting it via the pin hole (or holding the power button down for a long time) would be a start...does it have a map installed, if so what happens if you remove it?

Failing that, either do a clean install with NC 9.541 or you can always restore your backup

What exactly do you mean by "a clean install" with Navcore 9.541? Do you totally erase unit?

Yes, you should have a backup so you have nothing to lose by erasing the device and starting from scratch

The navcore I linked you to is the official one from TomTom so it was designed to run on your device. By doing a clean install, there should be no crashing unless you have a hardware fault

Where in the backup is the Navcore listed? Want to be sure that by backup is complete.

I'm not sure I understand your question. Your backup should be all of the files and folders that resided on the drive in Windows Explorer before you did anything to it

I saved everything but just looking at the backup I don't see anything that says "Navcore". Is it in one of the other files?

There is no one folder that contains the navcore...parts of it are in different folders and other files in the root, just like NC 9.541 or Windows etc

The problem may be that it did not get installed in the root. How do I make sure that is where it goes?

I don,t undertand what you mean with the frase:
The problem may be that it did not get installed in the root

1) Make a backup of your Device and delete the content.
--
2) Unpack the* navcore (winrar ) and place folders and files on your Device.
--
3) Reset The Device (minimal 15 sec) and start it till the announcement "No map found"
--
4) Copie the selected map to your Device in his own folder.
If you open the map you see the individual files and probably a folder (brand).
Not a map in a map.
(plain map no speedcams,poi,etc)

How to read the chart.
http://www.navitotal.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=19485
--
5) Download FastActivate.
http://www.navitotal.com/viewtopic.php?f=127&t=19452
Copy FastActivate.exe and
meta.txt to the
root of your device

1. Update Meta.txt (after that don't quit the program)
2. Patch Map
3. Done - quit FastActivate
---
If you want the activate another map after you have quit the program use the following procedure:
1. Update Meta.txt
2. Patch Maps
3. Done - quit FastActivate

6) Give a 15 sec reset and start the device if everything works fine
just then you can ad speedcams etc to the map

7) Stay away from Home
---
We like to hear the result Good or Bad.
And keep away from TomTom Home.
