Re: Go 720 - Update results in "Probably the disk is full"

Thu Dec 04, 2014 4:50 am

I am really out of my depth now, sorry about this.

I took a back up before I started the process of updating my map. Since I am struggling with the map upgrade I decided just to throw the backup back on the device (so at least we would have a usable GPS) but low and behold, I get the message that there is not enough space on the device to receive the backed up files. I appreciate that you are likely sick of my mumblings but is there any explanation why I cannot restore the backed up files?

Hi,

The device won't connect to the computer any longer and it looks like maybe I somehow formatted the internal memory. I no longer see a drive called "internal". Is there any way to recover from this or is it off to Best Buy I go ;o(

Thanks

Firtst connect your device to your PC
Then use a paperclip to reset it. There is a small hole at the bottom.
Start it up while conected a wait. It should show up on your PC in about 10 sec.

Actually you do a 30 second hard reset before you hook-up your 720 to a computer. It's kinda hard to get to the reset hole on the bottom of the case with the unit sitting in it's dock/cradle.

@tendriver

That's only when a dock is used. If you just use a USB cable, it's no problem. But the main thing is to give the device a paperclip reset and connect it to the PC before you switch it on.

Thanks to everyone trying to untangle my mess - appreciated.

I did the hard reset (30 seconds with paperclip) then connected, then turned it on. It takes a long time to startup and when it does I don't get asked if I would like to connect to the computer. Plus the "internal" drive does not show up in file manager. I do, however, see a Tomtom icon in file manager but that looks like the contents of the SD card.

My theory is that somehow I did something bad to the internal storage. If I could recover from that then I think I would on my way. Does this make sense?

Thanks

1. All GO owners should have a dock/cradle. I dare say that not many also have a USB mini cable.
2. I agree.
3. It makes no difference whether you turn the device on before or after connecting it to a puter.

I know what was on the internal, but what is currently on the internal memory. Is your SD/SDHC card in the device?

It's not a special cable like the x40 or x50. Just mini-USB. And yes, the x40 and x50 come with both dock or cable. :003:

3. It makes no difference whether you turn the device on before or after connecting it to a puter.

First connecting and then boot up gives the best results. It always connects, even without asking you.
and when it does I don't get asked if I would like to connect to the computer.

It takes a long time to startup

That's normal when you give it a cold reboot. Booting up after a hard reset will take a little bit more time than a boot from standby.

tendriver That's what I said.

tendriver This is true only after a reset or the device was connected to a puter for it's previous boot-up.

tendriver I agree. About 20 sec. after a reset & about 5 sec after a normal shutdown & reboot

Hi,

I reset the 720 with a paperclip, connected it to the computer and then started it up. After many seconds it did boot up and my Tomtom Home software opened - funny thing though, according to the Home Software there is no device connected. This seems odd because obviously booting up the 720 caused the Home software to open.

In file manager should I see a device called "internal" or should I only see the contents of the memory card that is installed in the device? For some reason, I can't copy my back-up to the 2GB memory card - it says not enough space. Since there was enough space to hold those files before I backed it up, well I can't understand why now there is not enough space to do a restore from those files.

Hi,

Good news, I got the new map loaded and everything looks good now (well, I still need voices but surely that won't be hard to sort out ;o)

Thanks to everyone who helped - it was quite an education.

Thanx for the up-date. You should be able to download Loquento voices thru TT Home with no problem.
