Winrar 4.01

Mon Feb 13, 2017 6:10 pm

I have recently replaced the hard drive in my computer.

During this work i have lost my copy of Winrar 4.01, and so i have now installed Winrar v 5.4.

I have always understood that using versions later then 4.01 can cause corruption in some iGO files.

Can anyone confirm that using version 5.4 will maintain file integrity.

Thankyou

It's not a matter of archiving. Nor rarring nor unrarring corrupt files using winrar, whatever version.
It's closing a file again, after opening that file to make corrections/improvements, that handles winrar 4.20 (and higher) in a bad way. I am not sure about 4.01 but just in case, I use 3.8 (or 3.83?) to perform such operation.

FWIW, I totally agree. Winrar 5 [anything] can cause errors. Stick with 4.00 or as katastrofe says. Just do a Google search for your version choice.

If you are not modifying the file, any version of WinRAR is fine.

If you are modifying the file open it with Total Commander
