Yes there is.

eskro wrote:and how do u launch the .cab?

A cab is an installer file for WinCE/Mobile, Copy to Device memory or Storage card and run it with a file explorer, It will then install itself, DO NOT INSTALL TO THE DEFAULT DIRECTORY, Instead install to either My Flash Disk or Storage card.

If your device doesn't have an explorer you can use Total Commander, If you can't use that then place the cab into \windows\startup (I think that's right) and SOFT RESET, it will install itself after windows has loaded.

Wherever you installed it to there will be a folder called TCPMP and the exe will be in there.

oh boy ok,,,

but uhm,, .cab's cant run by themselfs....

it needs an "installation script"

Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:36 pm

A cab is similar to a .msi file on a windows pc, It really is a zip file with a script to tell windows where to unzip the files to, You need to launch the cab within a file explorer and it will extract itself and install itself, Then the exe will be available.

not when your wince is still locked

and .cabs aren't associated with wceload.exe

Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:47 pm

Guys,
If I could jump in here for a second. Fatboyfun, I'm not so sure that eskro is understanding what you are posting. This is not my saying anything negative here. FBF, please consider that eskro is a newbie with .cabs, is there a step-by-step you could post?

Mon Oct 18, 2010 10:50 pm

my WInce does not recognise .cabs by default...

like if i try to run them, i get an error message saying something like "u need to run application first then run .cab again"

basically it means .cabs arent associated to my WinCE....

so apparently theres a wince utility called 'Wceload.exe' that can install .cabs....

if anyone has it, plz send over :)

ok will try thanks alot!

can u still send me --> wceload.exe

if u can find it?

:)

EDIT BY ME
---------------

looks like its my lucky day, i found an app called CabInstl 1.04

The file wceload.exe is useless without all the associated registry entries and possibly some dlls that your device manufacturer has probably removed. Even if you could replace them all they would be lost on every reboot.

Cabfiles are easy...

Make sure your cabfile is for your version of wince and not for windows mobile

Transfer to anywhere on your device

Using any file explorer just run the cab as you would if it was an exe, If you have no explorer access drop the cab into \Windows\Startup and SOFT reset

Windows will ask where you want to install to, Pick \My Flash Disk or \Storage card or equivalent, Do not install to \Program files as it will all be lost on a reboot

Within the newly created folder will be the exe you can use as normal

Job done!

Some notes...

If your program creates registry entries or files in windows for it's settings these will be lost on a restart, it is possible to use a mortscript to save these files.
