Which IGO engine should I use on my via michelin ?

Postby catsmokey » Wed Mar 02, 2011 8:47 am

thks for all your comments ~ fatboyfun has swung me back to thinking i'll try to see if i can use Primo. i'll report back, hopefully, by the weekend with how i get on. i don't need an all singing & dancing setup; just something relatively easy to use where you can relatively easily keep up to date with maps, speedcams etc
i have found the x-960 to be a reasonable sat nav & the free speedcam updates for life is still working, however, as michelin have withdrawn from the sat nav market you can no longer get map updates [maps are from mid 2007], which takes away some of the benefits of the sat nav.
you can find very few posts about the x9** & how to unlock them so this thread is very useful to me ~ previously while googling around i found some french sites with info about unlocking them, but google translate did not mean i could understand what they were fully saying.

Doh!!! not going too well on my upgrade, as i am unable to unlock the x-960.
i have downloaded miopocket4 [mp4] ~ on the root of the card i have put a folder "InstallSD" & copied the mp4 into it ~ i then put/moved mortscript.exe & MioAutoRun.exe & MioAutoRun.mscr renaming the last 2 to InstallSD.exe & InstallSD.mscr respectively onto the root of the card with the InstallSD folder which holds the mp4 files. [this is as outlined by marcy99 who has a x960 in thred http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?2945-Unlock-a-ViaMichellin-X-970T ~I also notice in that post that others couldn't get their viamichelins to work] After i have done a hard reset & returned the x960 to factory settings it does not reconise the SD card when i insert it ~ i also tried miopocketlite with the same results.
can you plse suggest another unlock [along with any name changes i should make] or advise what i need to change in miopocket so the SD card is reconised, as i am obviously missing something along the way.
thank you in anticipation for your help. catsmokey

@catsmokey

Here's an idea. Why not PM Marcy99 to ask her how she did it? She got it to work. Please post your results here.

Doh....

1. Format SD card
2. Create folder InstallSD on SD card
3. Rename both mscr + exe from MIO POCKET 4 to 'InstallSD' then place in the folder those 2 files and mortscript.exe you have just created so you have InstallSD.exe + InstallSD.mscr + Mortscript.exe
4. Move mp4 files and folders to the route of your sd card.
*When you view your SD card you should see 1 folder labelled InstallSD and the rest are mp4 files and folders. The only files that should be in the folder InstallSD are the Install.mscr,InstallSD.exe and the Mortscript.exe
5. Hard reset (hole underneath stick a pin in and push the button.
6. Follow MP4 instructions.

Simples

*A bit of advice, drill the reset button hole so you can stick something bigger than a pin to reset it, you will definitely need to do this when experimenting with different sat navs, as a hard reset is needed each time an error is made.

You will need to put Mortscript.exe in the InstallSD folder as well.

i'll look at it again tomorrow but after following your instructions in thread #79 i still can't unlock the device,i get a message "InstallSD.mscr there is no application with "InstallSD" Run the application first then open this file from within the application". at least the x960 accepts the sd card now but it appears something is missing.
thks again for your thgts catsmokey

@catsmokey

Be careful trying to edit/remove applications from MioPocket. You might accidentally remove something that is necessary for your device to operate. I wouldn't remove anything that has to do with MioMap because you just don't know. If I were you, I would back-up my entire device first before changing anything.

i have installed primo 1.2 [chas's copy] & it works "ish" ~ very "ish"
i've put the uk.fbl TA in the map folder but the device does not seem to find it [shall i remove the basemap.fbl from the folder?]
it also takes a long while to load & i have to carry out a soft reset every time i turn the device on ~ would be nice if i could get it to load straight into Primo.
i need to get outside & try it in the car, along with doing some more research.

"Ish" meaning what? I suppose that it's the map issue and start up issue. You do not need the basemap but before you delete it make a back-up copy first. It may even cause the other issue also. Possibly Marcy99 can help you with loading direct issue. It's probably as simple changing the path.
