Upgrade from iGO8 to iGO primo 2.4

Postby chas521 » Thu Jun 27, 2013 1:32 pm

Please do what I'm instructing you to do! I'm only trying to help you. If you are using English as your language then download and use my 2.4. Yes, it's true that some folks have had some trouble with the version but I never did. I didn't like Primo in NA [US] so I use iGO8 exclusively. 2.4 may work fine for you. Try it.

The R3 maps are fine with Primo so you can use them.

Yurbuh's Primo from TPB is okay, no worries. That won't be it.
As I said before, Primo 2.0 is quite capable of finding all gps settings itself.

Questions:
about 10 : how do you check your position?
Can you tell if Primo is finding the gps receiver?

What I am thinking (and I can be wrong) is that you use an external (meaning not Primo) program to check position (point 10) and that program locks the GPS so the GPS isn't free for Primo to use it.

Hi nabi.
Yes, there's an external option to check for gps signal.
It checks signal and gives information about coordinates and gives the latitude also.
Before that I go to the gps path (this is also external) and select primo.exe
I close that before I open navigation (igo primo).
Anyway I will delete the save file and will open primo without checking the signal externally.

Hi guys
Replace primo 2.0 with 2.4 from the link.
Started navi without checking gps externally.
Same exact problem.
The navi stucks in moscow
0 satellites
Is there any possibility that the unit uses
Only igo8?

20 minutes may not be long enough. The data download from the satellites takes 12 minutes, and if you missed the start, it won't get it all. Give it 30 minutes at least for the first fix - without moving the GPS anywhere. If it still does not work, you may have another problem to find.

No. When iGO works, Primo should as well.

Follow lain's advice. It's worth trying. 20 minutes is usually more than plenty long enough, but sometimes it isn't. It's exceptional but I know of one case were it took about 35 minutes to get a first ever satellite fix. Do not forget that Primo needs a clear view to the sky (not in a city - high buildings, not in a forest, ....) and preferably good atmospheric circumstances.
However, that external program got it quick. And iGO as well.

Do you have a copy of that iGO8? Then look in the sys.txt if there is something there about the gps. Or a [device] section? And also look in the save folder of iGO for a file called system.ini for information. We may be missing something. Or the port and baud are wrong.

Another possibility is that exiting the external program is not enough and that one is still blocking the GPS port.

Yes, this program works.

I seem to have the same problem and followed your link (thank you) I have one of those no name Chinese car all in one radio GPS head units, I was running IGO8 OK, I thought of upgrading so I formatted the old and copied the files from your link. I also have the same problem that the IGO primo GPS gets no signal, I took out the IGO Primo card and re inserted the old IGO and that did pick up the satalites for the GPS, I also used that file to find out the port and baud rate and then I put in the sys.txt file

[gps]
;port=3
;baud=9600

still no luck, any help would be most welcome, thank you

Just to make sure, if iGO8 is working, put the SD card back in and we'll check some more that you are using the correct baud and port. In settings, go to the second page, "GPS" and see what the port and baud it is using. It will probably be grayed out but you still should be able to read the numbers. Those are the numbers you should be also using in Primo. On the other hand, you could only use the working iGO8 and forget Primo. Is your iGO8 from this site? Or the other guys could be right and you never gave the program enough time to lock on to the satellites. Remember, ONLY through the program and NOT through the device.

Mollydog, are you sure the port and baud are correct? Then delete the semicolons ( a semicolon is a ; sign) in the sys.txt [gps] section. A semicolon disables the sys.txt line, that is everything following the ; is considered a comment.

Thank you both for your help :) I got the port and baud rate by following your link and used GPSScan to find out. just before going back to the car I did as you said and took off the ";" so GPS bit now it looks like this in the sys.txt file

[gps]
port="3"
baud="9600"

the moment I switched on the sat-nav in the head unit it had a full bar gps signal many thanks for this info as I'm sure I'd never have found out what to do by myself, two further questions if I can ask?

when I load the sat-nav, on the splash screen as it loads it cums up with a notice saying there is a voice not supported ant to look in the log, where would I be looking for this log?

the other question is as I plan on using in on my trip through France this summer I would of liked to use pre set route from google maps so I could choose the roads that I liked and not necesserily the fastest or the shortest is there a way I could do something like this, i.e. import a route in to IGO?

many many thanks for getting my off the ground with IGO Primo, I know I'd still be in the car trying to work out what to do if it wasn't for you THANK YOU :)

That log is the crash.txt, if there is one. Don't bother.
Just add this to your sys.txt

[sound]
csv_voice_enabled=1

Best put the headers (the names between the [ ] ) in alphabetical order and see there are no double headers or lines.

Yes, you can.
Save the routes as KML files to your PC, next copy all saved KML files to content/userdata/poi (create userdata folder and poi folder if necessary).
It will take some time starting up if you add many new KML files.

You can also
(a) make the proper settings, like avoiding highways, and choose the proper routing method. You have a choice between fast, short, easy, green and economical (not sure about the names of the routing methods)
(b) plan a route on map (paper map, google maps, ... even on Primo) and set via points. Set some extra via points to make sure Primo choose the roads you want.
(c) do a demo route to make sure the route is what you want, correct what is needed and ....
I think you can save routes in Primo, give it a proper name and you are done.
(d) the combination of (a) (b) and (c) will give you the result you want. It will take some puzzling however.

The alternative is you search and find preset routes. However, that could be tricky as well, because possibly some file converting and more tricks should be done.
As an example, Garmin does have some nice (motorcycle) routes, but those files are locked, to begin with. They need unlocking before converting.

Once more many many thanks for your help :) it is very much apriciated and making me feel very much a part of this community, I'm sure I'm asking questions that to many must sound a bit rudimentary and its nice to be made welcome thank you :)

best regards

For routes it's actually content/userdata/route (at least with my version of primo), though I'm not sure it will use the whole route or just the final endpoint (I'm trying to save a kml file with an edited route but google maps won't let me).

Edit: confirmed, I managed to save a modified route in google maps, but loading the route in primo just recalculated to the final destination, disregarding the intermediate waypoints.

I confess that I did load a route or two way back in the past, with iGO8. It worked, but explaining 100% exactly how I did it then, ... sorry.
