I'll try the Holly (Nuance) voice later.

I understand what you're saying. But is it better than before? Ultimately, I think it boils down to the mapmakers and what they consider important. Much like the .dlc and .dem files.

I had the new voice on my PDA and the old voice on my Mio both running together, They both missed the same roundabouts.

Possible. Did you renew the maps as well? Maybe using the old maps there is an announcement?

As you know, I use the Q4 2009 NA Navteq maps that contain all the announcements. I've never tried the TA maps so I wonder if therein lies the problem?

I use Navteq maps, Catsmokey did say the US voice does work, So it has to be the UK voice or related Loq folder, I will try the male Loq voice and the Nuance voice later

I've never tried it. But I wonder if there's a way to choose the Susan [US voice] with the UK language and phoenme files so that it comes across as UK?

I'll have a fiddle with it later :D

UPDATE: I tried to make Susan [US] sound UK by changing the language files and adding the phoneme files but it was no go. It didn't work. Susan remained US.

So I tried this instead. Using iGO 8.3, I ran a simulated route that crosses a roundabout [traffic circle] using Kate's UK voice and Simon's UK voice and BOTH told me what exit to take on the roundabout. Incidentally, both UK voices said roundabout while Susan says traffic circle. So now I'm positive it's in the maps!

Also on the upper left side, it visually shows you what exit to take on the roundabout.

Where I am, Navteq maps suck at roundabouts. Sometimes they do not even know there IS one, and I am just instructed to "Turn Left.....". Teleatlas, on the other hand, seems to know them all and I get full audio and visual instructions. Does not matter which voice I use at the time--the results are exactly the same. So I think you're right--it's in the maps. But then I like the DA announcements with Navteq, so I live with it. If only Teleatlas had Driver Alerts it would be a perfect world. Except for the speed limits being wrong sometimes of course.

Following on from the above thgts & discussions i had a look inside the Voice_TTS-log zips. The 3 excel files commands;destname;& ordinals are the same size & appear similar: the 3 different distance files are different because the US sue one's are larger than UK kate as she has more different measurements ~ this shd not effect the announcements of roundabout exits i would think. However, the big difference between the 2 voice files is that kate only has 2kb rules.txt while sue has 2 rules.txt files, 1 of 27kb & the other of 105KB. [why does everything in the US have to be bigger than in blighty? ;-)) ]
shd part of either/both[?] sue's txt files be included with the kate rules.txt file?

i'm using the 2010.09 TA maps & my problem is the same as fbf with his NT maps. The problem does not seem related to the size or age of the roundabouts.

Still it's miles better than the Gopal software originally on my Medion that would just say "Turn left now" at roundabouts no matter what exit you needed to take. :D

Which, in a counter-clockwise roundabout, could lead to trouble if you took that literally.

I have cracked it :D

Use this Kate voice...

2773

I spent all day on this and downloaded GB's of archives, but in one of them was this voice, It's nearly twice the size of the one i had and it announces roundabouts near me that the original voice doesn't.

Please test and report back...

Brillient chas; i'll try it out tomorrow; if i have any problems i'll report back, but it looks like you have solved the problem. thku.
I played around with my device today & got uk tts nua voices to work at roundabouts but tomorrow i will go back to loq voices tomorrow with the new super duper kate.
I also played with the old kate in tts on 1.2 & it had the same problem about not announcing all roundabouts as 1.1 did; as it's the same file that is not a surprise; i would therefore suggest people put the new kate in their voice file if they are running primo 1.2 also.
