POI loading problem

Wed Apr 04, 2012 4:27 pm

I did read the sticky from Chas521, but think my problem is a little different.

I'm running IGO8.3.5 and when I try to find any type of POI I'm getting

Failed to open file: writable.bmp
existing application.

I've been running this program for weeks now but this is the first time I've looked for a POI.

Suggestions?

First, what kind of POIs are you trying to open? What I mean is are you trying to open the POIs that come with a map set or are you trying to open your own added POI? I only have the US POIs from the East coast. POIs that come with a .poi extension go into content\poi. Without ANY doubt, you want TeleAtlas [TomTom] POIs. Not TomTom maps but map sets for iGO.

I was trying to do a search for a POI and received that error code. The POI's came with the map set.

The POI folder (North America) is in the Content/POI folder.

In the meantime I have gas stations set on my system and they're on the screen.

I don't understand. What do you mean you have a POI folder inside content\poi? They should be ONLY separate individual states not a complete folder.

I was responding to your comment "POIs that come with a .poi extension go into content\poi"

The folder on the card within the IGO8 folder is "Content" then "POI's" and yes all the states are listed separately in the POI folder.

Are you sure about the path? (no extra "s" in "content\poi")

Nope, just checked.

I have a content/poi folder with all states poi's in it.

I did notice a difference between my older IGO8 poi's listed in the folder.

IGO8 POI's are listed as

USA_Alaska.poi

IGO8.3.5. are listed as

USA Alaska_NQ_2011.Q3_111201.poi

To me, maybe I need an underscore "_" between USA and Alaska?

Just checking because you wrote:

The underscore won't solve the problem. It seems a file inside is missing or corrupt somewhere, most likely in the POI file. When you check a POI in a different state, do you get also the same error? No, then the Alaska.POI is to blame. Yes, then either the POI set needs to be changed or a different file is causing the error. That would be branding.zip, only my iGO 8.3 branding doesn't have a writable.bmp, but my iGO is no 8.3.5 build.

Boy, I should have been back here earlier.

I'm actually in New Jersey, but only used Alaska as an example.

Can you upload the NJ POI's and I can check it tomorrow?

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Oh bull...no good.

Deleted the existing info in the POI folder, downloaded the east coast POI's and placed in POI folder.

Getting the same error as before. I even tried NJ and NY POI's, but same error.

There is ABSOLUTELY NO way they shouldn't work UNLESS YOU made some change in my original program that you downloaded. I'm not talking about sys.txt entries for your particular device. My iGO8 program and those POIs are exactly what I have on my device and it works 100%!

Program: http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?6880-Igo8-March-5-2011
POIs: Post #11

You must be doing something wrong. To get to the POIs, get a signal lock, find address and do a keyboard search for a particular POI.

This is very strange. The only thing I did change from your program was the .sys file.

Not sure I'll be able to look at it tomorrow, but as soon as I get a chance, maybe I'll download the program again ans start from scratch but keep the .sys file.

Try this please. Download the program from my post again - jumbofiles.com and rapidshare.com are pretty good. After backing up your present content and the sys.txt, delete the iGO8 program on your SD card and extract the new download from the folder to your SD card. You should redo the save folder because there may be something there as well. Perhaps the first older download got corrupted somehow.
