Online Live Traffic

Wed Sep 17, 2014 2:46 pm

may finally be working. In recent years, one thing I've failed to achieve with iGo is working live traffic downloaded directly from the servers. Unfortunately, it usually result in a memory exception after a certain period of time. For a long time, I put this down to possibly downloading too many traffic events. Possible right?

Well, today, using the Honda Reborn build, I downloaded 1200 traffic updates in less than a minute without an exception. Now I need to put this into testing.

One thing I would like to know is how to remove the Honda logo from that reborn build?

Upload the picture and we 'll try to help. Not easy without the original program though.

Cannot say for sure yet whether Live Traffic is working 100%. It seems iGo's online traffic is significantly better than it used to be. Lot more events, and no crashes, but is it possible these are to do with some sort of bug that was coming via live traffic rather than individual units not being able to play nice. Makes me wonder if I should have sold my previous unit now :D :lol:

Still, Google Search is now broken, need to find a fix for that.

According to the Internet Google didn't renew their license with NNG and now Google search has been replaced by Nokia Search? Will give it a go anyway.

There are other problems with Honda Reborn so I'm currently looking closely at the Goldmaster.

Here is what potc wrote about enable Google Search:

Local search needs a couple of entries in the sys.txt:

[poi]
provider_filtering=1
featured_provider="netlocalsearch.naviextras.nokia"

[poi.netlocalsearch.naviextras]
services="nokia,google"

[network]
available=1

[tmc-http]
enabled=1
start=1
servers.size=1
servers[0].url="http://zippy.naviextras.com/services/tmclite/data/nng-igo-tmc-iphone/0/"
servers[1].url="http://zippy.naviextras.com/services/tmclite/data/nng-igo-tmc-russia/0/"

I'll give it a go. Just tried switching on Nokia searches but I got "No matching results". Not convinced it even tried searching.

Still, I'm playing around so there we go. There's a few problems with the Honda Reborn one so I'm not going to touch that. Might have a play with this as well. Eventually, I'll come up with a build I'm happy with.

Surely the Russia entry isn't needed?

Anyway, added that. Next job is merging some new data from 2014. Just downloaded a newer version so will make a couple of builds and test them over the next week.

Going to have a play with this one too: Primo 9.6.13.405512.

Just about settling on the right one. Haven't really had a proper chance to experiment yet really. Loaded up some new building files, maps, pois etc from 2014. I'm wondering whether to make a copy of Goldmaster as well and perhaps a copy of Navitech and experiment till I find my favourite.

No luck with Here search. It now says "Cannot connect to server". We shall persevere :)

For others looking in this thread for answers to get Online Search fully working I also needed to add this line:

[naviextras]
boot_service_address="http://zippy.naviextras.com/services/index/rest/2/boot"

...which I grabbed from an older build. This now connects to the Nokia Here Search Engine perfectly on Primo 9.6.13.405512, although I haven't tried it on an older build. So really, your Sys.txt should look like this and work properly:

[poi]
provider_filtering=1
featured_provider="netlocalsearch.naviextras.nokia"

[poi.netlocalsearch.naviextras]
services="nokia,google"

[network]
available=1

[naviextras]
boot_service_address="http://zippy.naviextras.com/services/index/rest/2/boot"

[tmc-http]
enabled=1
start=1
servers.size=1
servers[0].url="http://zippy.naviextras.com/services/tmclite/data/nng-igo-tmc-iphone/0/"
servers[1].url="http://zippy.naviextras.com/services/tmclite/data/nng-igo-tmc-russia/0/"
servers[2].url="http://tmchttp0.naviextras.com/nng-igo-tmc-primo/0/"potc

However the Russia TMC server is completely unnecessary and I've removed from mine. I'm not convinced the bottom line is necessary either and actually might be making it worse, so I'll probably remove it.

This brings me onto the problems of Nokia Here search. Why oh why have they done this? It's dreadful. It's absolutely appalling. It turns out Google and NNG weren't getting on so NNG cut the servers off to Google Search and replaced it with... this, this, thing. It's absolutely shocking. The way I used to test Google Search was to type MOT (a vehicle safety test all cars have to go through in the UK) this will usually return about 4 or 5 results no matter where you are because there's almost certainly an MOT test centre within a few miles of you, unless you're in deep Wales! It returned one MOT test centre (despite the fact there's about four in a two mile radius) and Mottram Road! I thought that's weird, so I searched for MOT Test and it returned absolutely nothing? I thought it must be playing up so I searched Food and sure enough, it returned 20 or 30 results for various food outlets... so in essence, it does work, it's just absolute **** and unless you're looking for the most trivial things e.g. a cornish pasty, you're absolutely **** with it. What a pile of ****.

Anyway, glad it's working, even if it is junk, Traffic is working good too. Now we'll see what kind of routes it starts coming up with. It made an absolutely bizarre one to get me home yesterday, that I didn't follow. Perhaps on paper it was very accurate but it can't have been the best route, or perhaps it is and I don't know it :P

Hi everybody,
I got a couple of questions related to online traffic-TMC. I didn't want to open a new thread so I I am using one about the same topic.
First, I live in Canada, and I don't see any licenses for tmc. I have read they don't exist for North America. So, what service does my GPS use to get live traffic events? I still see "online traffic" available, so my guess is it's getting it from the internet.
I need to do something with it. I get a list of events, sometimes a few hundreds. That would be fine if they were within a 50 kms radius, but I really don't need, or want to know about an event 150 kms away, that in no way is related to my itinerary. I tried changing the line in the sys file like this:

dl_dist_0_km=5.0 ; the radius in kilometers

I played with different numbers here. Nothing happened. Is there a way to get events for a smaller area, or directional, that is, related to the direction I am moving to? Could they, at least, be sorted in a way I can see them from closest to farthest? None of the filter options lets me do that. Anyone has an answer or answers that could help me, and others?
Thanks :023:
