Just put a semicolon (;) before the line in the folders section.

like this

[folders]
;app="SDCARD/navigation"

Agreed! I was also thinking today this. That line is a pathway so just make sure you have placed all the folders/files in a folder called navigation on the SD card or are they all "naked" files/folders? See what I'm getting at? FYI, that ; in front is the same as saying REM so that command is by-passed.

It is all in a folder called navigation. I renamed the IGO8 folder after extracting it.

I will try adding ;

Aaarrrggghhhhh!!!! Almost! :tease:

After adding the ; where nabi said to I went out to try yet again. To be hoenst I figured it would crash again but to my great delight I saw the load screen appear. I was jumping for joy but then just as it got to where it said the main screen loading( start comes next )it crashed. 2 errors. Hopefully we can figure it out because it is SO CLOSE...

NOTE - I hope I have the spelling of these errors right. My vision is compromised a bit due to my MS and the error messages are very small on the screen. Tried to copy it right.

1st error =
FFUI ERROR
Unknown object identifier
Identifier = [vIsInUSA]
Script "[unnamed]" Command 0

I have to hit ok a bunch of times for that to go away and then I get another message

2nd error=
IGO8
Failed to open file:
ui_ig08/common/ui/truck.ui
Exiting application

When I hit ok on that message it shuts it down.

I am assuming this is another sys.txt issue. Pathway to start the program is on the right track. It auto loads when you power up the vehicle like the OE SD cards and it also will start if you hit the Nav buttons.

Again, very close. HELP.

First thing to try now is to delete the entire save folder from the SD card. Completely shutdown your device, wait a few seconds and re-start.

Deleted the SAVE folder completely from the SD card and retried it in my car radio. Same exact set of error messages and results.

Error #1 is a data.zip error. Did you put the correct resolution folder in it? 800_480. Error #2 - not sure yet. I really wish you would have used MY download[s].

I thought it was your download and the other member just combined them into one file?

Data.zip had the 800_480 folder in it already so I didn't add anything.

UPDATE:

chas521 - just to make sure there was no issues with using the other member's files I downloaded your 2 part program( family picnic )I tried to use the 1st time. Using WINRAR I was able to extract all of part 2 unlike my previous attempt that would fail around 86% using my other program( which is the reason I used the other member's 1 part version of your program ).

I made the same edits to this new download version I did the 1st one. I then removed the 1st version from the SD card and loaded this 2nd version. Went out and tried it and it is the exact same issue. Almost fully loads but hangs up right before it says START and I get the exact same error messages.

If it is a data.zip issue I don't know what it would be? The only thing I can come up with is when I am extracting part 2 into the folder I have already extracted part 1 into it does seem to contain duplicate files and data.zip is one of them. The 1st time I said don't replace duplicate files. This time I said go ahead and replace duplicate files. So I don't know if that is messing with it somehow? Don't know what else to do when the 2 parts contain duplicate files? You either replace them or keep them and I have tried both.

I am done for tonight. Will try again tomorrow or when someone has some ideas. I am out of my element. I can follow directions but I haven't a clue as to what is going on programming wise.

Thanks again.

I can't understand why you're having trouble extracting my 2-part upload using Winrar. Do I have to come up to NH? I did it with no problem. I think that you're doing it wrong. When you download the two parts they are probably on the desktop. Double-click on part 1 and Winrar should open showing everything that is in part 1. Click-on extract up top of Winrar and the destination places should open. Choose a destination and click OK or whatever it is. Part 1 then extracts to the destination and then part 2 automatically extracts to the same location making one big download. No asking to replace duplicate files if the SD card was empty.

I don't understand this: I made the same edits to this new download version I did the 1st one. I then removed the 1st version from the SD card and loaded this 2nd version. Went out and tried it and it is the exact same issue. Almost fully loads but hangs up right before it says START and I get the exact same error messages.

Is the 2nd version my program? You didn't get the whole extraction so of course it's not gonna work.

You should have your resolution folder in three places. 1. ui_igo8 folder, 2. ui_igo8 in the data.zip and 3. ui_igo8 in the branding.zip. Plus the common and icons folders in 1 and 2 and common in 3. If you can get MY program to extract properly, you'll have it all.

This two-parts files that I've combined, is "driving me nuts" (that's how you say it?). After a good night sleeping, here is my realization.
The saving date of this (part1 & part2) files on my PC is Jan, 24.
On Jan, 31 I've started a thread named "How do I know what resolution my device uses".
So, finding this, I'm sure that I didn't removed the 800_480 folder before combining them. On jan, 24 I didn't had a clue what resolution do I need.

NOT GUILTY

Now, that we have 2 beers, we can enjoy them together :).

I think that line about coming here to do it for me is a little uncalled for don't you. I am trying my best to follow the directions you and the others have given me and I believe I have done a good job of that so far. I have thanked you repeatedly as well. If you are now getting angry let's stop and I will forget it.

I know my way around a computer very well and I know how to unzip/extract a file!!!! As I have repeatedly stated I have never attempted this type of project though. You guys have done it before and are familiar with how to do it. I am not so relax.

I am sorry I was not clear in my wording previously. Yesterday was a long hectic day I was attempting to fit this into as I did some website updates. Let me try again...

1 - I downloaded your 2-part family picnic program originally. As I stated in this thread earlier I ran into trouble extracting files from part 2 at 86% using a program other than WINRAR. Tried many times and even downloaded your files a couple times but it kept failing at 86% on me.

2 - I got WINRAR after you said to use it as I was using a different program to extract the .rar files. I was going to download your files again just to be sure the ones I had were not corrupted during download but member filesupload100 had said he downloaded them and made them into 1 file. So I grabbed that instead to use. I used WINRAR to extract those files and that is what we have been working with up until last night.

3 - Last night you said you wished I was using your files. So, to put you at ease and maybe fix something that was an issue, I downloaded the 2-part family picnic files again and extracted them using WINRAR into a whole new folder to start over from scratch.

4 - While extracting part 2 into the folder I got a duplicate file warning from WINRAR. The data.zip folder is one of the files that it was showing as a duplicate/existing file as part 2 extracted. I looked at the info shown and both the one already there and the one it was trying to add were the exact same size. I have tried telling it NO to replace duplicate files and also YES to replace duplicate files to see if it makes a difference. It has not. Again, I know how to extract files but what am I to do when it says the file already exists? I can either say don't overwrite it or go ahead and do so. I tried both methods. Doesn't seem to have made a difference. If you do not believe me I will take screen shots of every file it says is already there as part 2 extracts!!!!

5 - After creating the new program folder, using your 2-part download, I made all the edits to the various spots( rename IGO8.exe to navigation, edit sys.txt with the various things needed, etc... )that I did on the one I have been trying to make work using filesupload100's 1 part version. I basically got this new version to the point the other one was at.

6 - I then deleted the existing files from the SD card completely and then loaded the new ones. So I was working with a totally new version of your program that was created using your downloads.

7 - Tried it in the car radio and it did the exact same thing as the other one. Auto load at power up works as does the buttons. Unfortunately it gets to the same spot I outlined yesterday and gives me the exact same 2 error messages and shuts down before fully loading.

So not sure what else I can say. I hope this is clear. As I told you I am not trying to be a pain but I have done everything you have requested I do. Something is still not right. I don't know what it is as I have no experience with GPS programming. I can make a website and I can fix a computer but this is new to me.

As to the folders and locations you talk of...

Navigation( main folder ): ui_igo8 folder = 800_480/common/icons
DATA: ui_igo8 folder = 800_480/common/icons
BRANDING: ui_igo8 folder = 800_480/common

I apologize for the hassle. I will walk away if you want.

Thanks again. :drinks:

[color="#FF0000"]I was ONLY kidding you about my coming there. I'm sorry if you found that insulting. I am not angry at all.[/color]

1. Yes, only Winrar for best results.
2. Filesupoad100 customized my program a little for his own device. His intentions were good and honorable but now he knows better than to change the original and it won't happen again with his uploads.
3. Fine
4. I believe you about the duplicate files! This is normal when you already have something on the SD card with the same name. That's why I recommended that you delete all files first from your SD card [of course to make any backup of any file/application necessary for your device] so that you're extracting my program to a blank SD card.
5. Fine
6. Excellent. I can assume then that the extraction of my two-part program to your SD card was OK and did not stop at 86%?
7. I have to give this more thought as to why. Anybody else just post and join in.

This can be a frustrating experience for someone who is not familiar doing it. But hang in there because I am.

Ok. Good to know. Came across different.

Couple things.

A.) - I have been extracting to a folder on my computer desktop not directly into the SD card. I do all the work on the desktop and then load the program folder or edited file( sys.txt for example )to the SD card. That shouldn't matter though correct?

B.) - The duplicate files are happening when part 2 extracts into the same folder part 1 was extracted into. I start out with an empty folder before extracting anything. I know you need to start with a blank folder. So when part 2 is extracting, and WINRAR suddenly pauses and tells me there are duplicate/existing files, they are files that came out of part 1. Nothing was in that folder to start with other than the part 1 files I had just extracted before starting part 2. One example as I said is data.zp. File size from part 2 matches the data.zip that comes from part 1 exactly when WINRAR asks what I want to do( overwrite or not ).

So like this...

  • Download your part 1 and part 2 .rar files( family picnic )to desktop
  • Create "navigation" folder on desktop
  • Extract part 1 to desktop>navigation
  • Extract part 2 to desktop>navigation * - WINRAR says duplicate files exist including data.zip *
  • Overwrite duplicate/exisiting files YES( or NO - hasn't mattered in end results that I see )
  • Make edits as needed to files
  • Load "navigation" folder on to EMPTY SD card

C.) - Part 2 of your download fully extracts using WINRAR. It just has the duplicate/exisiting file issue I have mentioned.

I appreciate very much the help you and others have given. I don't want to give up but as I have said I don't know what to do. This is all new to me. I will stay with it as long as you and others want to try and figure it out and will try and help me to do just that.

Hang in there because we're gonna do this. Let me explain it this way. I know that I kinda said it in the past but it's worth repeating. Upload hosts only accept files of a certain size so that's why I made two parts. When you extract part 1, part 2 automatically extracts as well. I just did this with my program and it did not say anything about duplicate files from any part. This is what's confusing me as to why it's happening with you.
