iGO8 for 2din China unit problem installing

Postby rewddewd » Fri Nov 05, 2010 2:47 pm

I've been on a couple of different boards trying to get igo8 to work on my 2din China unit in my VW. The software starts initially, then a screen comes up that says "navigation system" with a status bar underneath. After the status bar fills, it kicks back to the beginning and repeats.

The iGO8 version is 8.3.4.102680 and the folder structure on my SDcard is as follows:

content
custom
defaults
license
save
album.cache
branding.zip
crash.txt
data.zip
gpstmc.dll
gpstmc.pil
iGO.png
iGO8.exe
sys.txt
tahoma.ttf
tahomabd.ttf

The crash.txt file is:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm losing my mind and feel like I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I've been through a bunch of threads and I'm confused as to what to do next.

I don't know - you don't say - where you got your iGO program. And youdon't tell anything about your 2Din as well. (CE version to start with, resolution, ...)
First delete the save folder and retry.
If that don't help, check your resolution:

Osprey wrote:a easy way of determining the screen's resolution is to use MortScript, as I did to find out my resolution. It doesn't matter what the SD card is named and it can tell you exactly what the resolution is (so no cycling through images and making a judgment about which one looks better). It also ought to work on CE6.

In case you're interested,[Please Register or Login to download file] it is, packaged for people to download ([Please Register or Login to download file] )

All that this program does is put a message up on the screen that says "Device resolution: ", followed by the detected resolution (ex. "480x272" for me).

Then report back.

Thanks for your reply, Nabi.

I honestly don't know where I downloaded the igo8 from, somewhere in a forum I think. Anyway, the 2din lists the OS as WinCE 5.

I deleted the save folder and will try to run again.

If it fails, how exactly do I run the resolution tester form the SD card? Do I need to remove the iGO8 files and folders from the SD card first? Should there only be the "resolution tester" folder (with contents) on the card?

What's the exact name of your device? Do you have a link to a site where we can see the total specifications?
If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Unforutantely I don't know exactly what the model # is. A mechanic installed it after removing it from another car.

This is what it looks like - [Please Register or Login to download file]

I can probably get additional information from certain "utility" & "tools" screens on the unit if I know what I'm looking for.

Okay, CE5 rules out some things. No worries, CE5 being probably the best OS for iGO

Just copy the resolution tester to an sd (doesn't have to be empty or freshly formatted) and start it. Easy

OK,

I've got the ResolutionTester.exe, ResolutionTester.scp, and "Resolutions" folder with contents on the SDcard. I'm not in the car right now, so I'll try and run it when I am. I'm not sure how to access it and run it but I guess I'll try and figure it out. There is a separate sd slot and gps card slot on the 2din unit. I've been using the gps card slot because that's where the unit was pointing to for the missing iGO8.exe file initially.

I'll also try and obtain any other system information to include in the next post.

Thanks

Put res sd card into nav slot. Set it to run in same directory it was pointing too for igo.exe.
When done open igo diectory from sd card on your pc.
Check for resolution in sys.txt and in data.zip. to see if there is a match..

Oh, man. This is getting to be even more frustrating!! I pointed the navi to the resolution tester.exe on the SD and ---> ERROR #2 call\storagecard\resolutiontester\resolutions\systeminformation.exe

I am clueless as to what to do now.

Is there a chance I can start from the beginning and download the igo8 software somewhere?

Yes you could, when links are alive that is.
Before we do anything else, 2 things
1. it may surprise you, but crash.txt is not informative to me. I would like to know what the exact error message is on screen OR if no error message, what iGO is doing (you can see the progress at the bottom right)
2. Since your iGO is 8.3.4 build, which is a driver alert build, you possibly need to change the sys.txt (if the data.zip is driver alert) :
[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"

should be

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8_da"

I changed the sys.txt to "ui_igo8_da" as suggested and changed the resolution_dir="320_240" from 800x480 and screen_x=320, screen_y=240 as well. Error message was ERROR#2 call\storagecard\resolutiontester\resolutions\systeminformation.exe

I hope this helps.

OK, I tried to run it again. Rotating hourglass appeared then an igo 8 dialog box which read:

failed to open file
ui_igo8_da\320_240\loading.bmp
exiting application

sys.txt file:

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8_da"
resolution_dir="320_240"
vga=0
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1

[rawdisplay]
driver="gdi"

screen_x=320
screen_y=240

It seems to be 320*240, not 800*480
So change back to

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"

I ran with this:

sys.txt file:

[folders]
app="%SDCARD%/iGO8"

[interface]
skin="ui_igo8"
resolution_dir="320_240"
vga=0
maxzoom2d=6000000
show_exit=1

[rawdisplay]
driver="gdi"
class="landscape"
highres=0
screen_x=320
screen_y=240
stretch=1

A black screen came up and nothing happened. Just a reminder that initially the sys.txt file read 800_480. I changed it to 320_240 after reading another thread. With the 800_480 in the sys.txt the 2din will display a screen "navigation system" along with a status bar loading..... When the status bar fills, it goes back to the main navigation menu.
