Igo Primo 1.2 crashing

Postby terzer » Thu Jun 23, 2011 12:11 pm

Hello, I decided today to upgrade my 2 DIN nav (400mhz, 64mb, 800x480) from Primo 1.1 (which worked perfectly, without a single crash for 4 months) to 1.2. I downloaded it from http://www.navitotal.com/forums/showthread.php?6383-iGo-Primo-1.2-Optimized-for-Europe-but-can-be-used-anywhere . I don't use TTS, I edited the sys.txt, installed it on my MMC, started it. It works, when I'm in the menus, settings, everything works. But when I go to the map screen (in 3d, the map is visible, but in the distance its disturbingly blurred) after 4-5 seconds the nav restarts, without error message. I installed GJ skin 3.10, the nav simply exits from Igo. I played with sys.txt, no change.
What should I do?
My sys.txt:

With only 64 MB, you may have to limit or disable some of the more graphic intensive features (like 3d buildings, other 3d effects, and demographic textures--all in Settings or sys.txt). It also may help to limit visible POI's by adding this to sys.txt:
[3d]
max_pois = 10
max_pois_on_horizon= 6

Play with the numbers "10" and "6" until you find something that seems to work. "Horizon" can even be set to "0" if that helps.

Primo 1.2 is much more aggressive in it's use of memory for some features than 1.1 was.

@Terzer

Have you tried to delete all the files in the "save" directory ?

Sometimes it solves quite a lot of problems.

My GPS is 416Mhz / 64MO RAM and I am testing Igo 1.2 with TTS (but without 3D buildings) and it seems to work fine.

I tried the new branding, deleted the whole Save folder, it started, but its very slow and after 20 sec I got Out of memory message:
Required: 92100
Cache: 1392920
and it crashes. I don't think, that 1.2 has better features to be worth it... With GJA skin, primo 1.1 was brilliant. I will stick with it... The only thing was that 1.1 had fewer settings for fuel consumption (only combined).
Thank to you all for the help!

That might be a wise decision. Sometimes, no matter what, and for a variety of frustrating reasons, not all hardware is suitable for the Latest-Greatest software releases, and it's often best to stick with what you know works.

Can't agree more...
After spending hours trying to get Primo 1.2 to work and be stable on a 64Mb unit (running same features as iGO8.3.4 (5) I have gone back to iGO8.
I still use Primo 1.2 in my wifes car but that has 128Mb and no issues.
Cant make a silk purse from a sows ear :)
