iGO 8.3.2 POIs losing groups...

Postby j_cocker » Mon Aug 13, 2012 1:26 pm

Added around 10 pages of grouped POI (KML) from [Please Register or Login to download file] as I have done many times in the past.

Doing "Find POI" for the first time, and I see all the different groups. However thereafter I get around 75 pages of POIs which seem to be a subset of all the user POIs - no groups at all (and hence no use...).

Tried to add a POI manually, and the groups are still there, but for some reason they fail to appear after the initial attempt.

Deleting all the files in the kns, kix and kst files from M:\iGO8 8.3.2.80621\CONTENT\Userdata\POI I can see the groups again (but only during 1st run).

Any idea what is going on here?

Hi Joe,
Kinda. First of all, you're using a very old version of iGO8. Why haven't you upgraded to the more current 8.3.5? Secondly, what are the specifications of your device? It's very possible that you've reached the maximum memory of your device and it just doesn't have enough left to categorize them. Also, have you tried to categorize them using manage in the menu? Try reducing some of the content already on your device. Delete the dems, buildings, landmarks. Reduce the number of speedcams to a smaller area, reduce the number of maps. It's possible you might have to delete TTS and use non-TTS voices. Also, think about deleting the save folder.
If it ain't broke don't fix it!
ALWAYS BACK-UP YOUR FILES/FOLDERS BEFORE MAKING EDITING CHANGES!

Please do NOT post any thanks. Simply press the hand icon with the "thumb up" which is the thank you button.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

- I use a 5" Chinese GPS unit with 128MB, 800x480, diMka 1.1.47 skin, and memory does not seem to be an issue (always reports plenty left)
- I have a copy of v8.3.5.192519 (18/05/2011) on the SD card. Just tried it, and the POIs seem to behave themselves...
- I'll be happy to use it instead - although I could not see ANY difference between the two...
- Main reason I haven't upgraded was that I hate the blue arrows that appear on the map every time I approach a junction (I assume they indicate the direction possible to take?), and could not find a way to get rid of them. Any idea how to do this? I can send a photo if my explanation is not clear.

Would that be the motorway/trunk road signs at the top?

No, No.

They are in pale blue, on usually more than one road entering a junction.

I'll be out in the car later today and can take a photo or two.

It's been a long time since I fiddled with iGO 8, but weren't .tex files responsible for the arrows? If not I'm sure there was a sys.txt entry that controlled them.

I will endeavour to find out...

I think you may be on the right track here!

My v8.3.5 does have a texture folder under contents which I suppose I can simply delete.

However, is there something I can modify in thee sys.txt instead (see below):

Code: Select all
[folders]

[device]
sdcard_dsk_num=7

[project]

[switchmap]

2=",map_nt,\Storage Card\iGO8,\Storage Card\iGO8,"

I would try renaming the texture folder and see if it makes a difference, change it back if it doesn't.

A little bit more info. Had a closer look t the screen approaching a junction, and it looks as if the blue arrows appear on top of the usual orange arrows that indicate the next action to be taken at the junction. See below

PS: renamed the texture folder, and the arrows are still there...

Those arrows are not part of the standard iGO 8, They would be part of the skin that's installed, is there any option to turn then off?
