Green routing is also dependable on your settings.? How many liters/kilometers or miles/gallon? Green routing calculates the emission on a route, prior to time (fast) or distance (short)

I do this moderating since a very long time and you are the first to mention this behavior on a NavNGo product. I saw it once on a Gopal and it did not correct itself. That is the cursor disappeared out of the screen, but the map kept following the route :D
Strange, the least I can say.

1888 wrote:Now I know where I was going and I know three different ways to get there. The sat nav was taking me the way I would have went. Half way I decided to go the wrong way and see how it reacted. It did well. Almost instantly it had a new route for me, ...

I am not surprised

About 2/3 miles into the route I needed to get on the motorway what I know is the shortest route. The sat nav wanted me to go out my way into another town what would have added a few extra miles. When on the motorway it wanted me to go off at the next junction and take back roads. The arrow was following the slip road rather than the main road I was on. The sat nav is set to use motorways.

But now I am. Again, you are the first describe such thing, opposite to the settings. So I am guessing here what could be wrong:
- historical speed? (skezza) Hmm. Possible or not. Never seen it in action, not this way, that is.
- a road that is indicated as blocked, either by map fault, either by another cause? Very much possible. But you should tell. You have the device in front of you, you can see the settings, you can check the block existing or not. Could it be a saved setting?
- a TMC interference? any reason like accident for that road being blocked? Do you have TMC? TMC isn't always correct, but in settings, you can enable detour.

What is a slip road? A road next to the motorway, going parallel? So your GPS was inaccurate as well.

And a question here. Was Primo set to take the shortest road or the fastest road? I should think the motorway is fastest. Not always however. And are you 100% sure the parallel road (or the road Primo wanted to take) isn't shorter? Don't go by the road YOU THINK it would take, but go by the route Primo DID want to take. That one can be shorter/quicker as you think.

Again, what are your settings? It's not normal you set Primo to take motorways and Primo especially wants NOT to run on motorways. Are you sure you not set the wrong way?

Don't get me wrong, but your experience is unique to me. No one has this experience.
And I don't mean this in an insulting way. Or want accusing you of something. It's just weird.

Nabi

I am not sure what this historical traffic is but it was ticked (now unticked) and motorways was ticked. Slip road is a motorway turn off or on. Think Americans call them turn pipe.

Primo was set to fastest route. I was on a roundabout and it was telling me to take junction three what was through a town where junction 4 was the motorway.

This is the roundabout in question

I was coming down the A198 and it wanted me to go straight over where the next junction was the motorway. Zoom out and look at the distance to go through that town to the next junction west. My destination was at the end of that A1 (A199, Sir harry lauder road) I do agree it may be me being a noob and settings so not gave up 100% but so far igo8 does seem simpler to use.

Sorry, I am not English or American. I do not speak native English and language hick ups do come up from time to time.

Historical traffic is when Primo uses a database (.hsp files) that help Primo to use smart routing, depending on the time/day/place to avoid traffic jams.

The wrong junction number on roundabouts is something that happened to me more than once, using Primo and using iGO8. I usually take a quick look at the screen to see what road to take. Sometimes the announcement differs from the screen, while the icon of the roundabout (that blue circle with the exit number in it) may also differ from what is said or shown. Just to be sure I take that short look and trust on what the map shows. So far, I got where I wanted.

I have found with Primo if you take a wrong turn and then when it recalculates the route it can take you out of your way a bit, I have found that by cancelling the route and then re-entering it puts it back on the correct path.

Yes that is when it was happening however today is OK as I knew where I was going. If in a strange country I dare say I would be mighty p****d off.

I think primo might be trying to be too clever, if you take a wrong turn it might assume there's a problem with the original route and offers an alternative instead.

Other software like TomTom etc will try to get you back on the original route as soon as possible, you need to tell it to plan another route.

Thanks for all of the replies. Think I'll stick to iGo8 in the meantime

Yeah I am kind of thinking that way. I am taking this to the Black Forrest in Germany next year so thinking better safe than sorry. Or is that lost :fat: Bit of luck the primo problems will be my settings. I have a 2nd sat nav so I will be playing with the setting for a while and using it locally on roads I know.

If you can spare the storage space it's possible to have both igo8 and primo on the same device.

I did wonder about that. I don't have enough space just now unless they can be set to share maps/poi. I take it its like a dual boot on a computer, I get a choice screen to pick igo8 or primo.

You can share content to a degree, also you can install a menu to give you a choice of applications on boot.

It's a bit more work, and will probably require some editing of files but it is possible.

Tue Nov 12, 2013 12:29 pm

If there is a tutorial anywhere on how to do that I would be interested in reading that Fatboy.

Tue Nov 12, 2013 1:22 pm

As there's many variations of devices and software, a one-size-fits-all tutorial isn't practical.

But essentially it's to install a shell that runs when you boot the device instead of an app.
Then point the buttons within the shell to the apps.

If you go to our GPS unlock section you can find many shells.
Also don't install miopocket as it modifies too much on the device which inevitably leads to problems.

I use a shared content-folder between Primo and iGO8 for many years.
-Start with the Primo content-folder and add the following files to the respective folders:
- iGO8 lanquage (zip)file to folder lang
- iGO8 skins (zip)file(s) to folder skin.
All other files are compatible or will be ignored.
You will notice some delay when switching between Primo and iGO8 as the Primo speedcam database differs from the iGO8 speedcam database.
