Differences between Primo 2.0 and Primo 2.4

Sun Nov 17, 2013 7:32 am

Hello,

I am using Primo 2.0 on my Dragon Pearl GPS (128MO, no TMC) and I am wondering if I should install Primo 2.4.

Could somebody tell me what are the differences between these 2 versions of IGO Primo ?

Does the 2.4 works better/faster, does it add any cool features for the day to day use ?

Thank you in adavance,

Alex

Some say truck (mobilhome, ....) routing is better than 2.0. however besides some different placement of some buttons, I haven't found any meaningful differences. But I am no truck driver.
With the latest config file, I get no crashes anymore and the skins for 2.0 and 2.4 are not interchangeable.

Hi,

I got some answers on a French forum : some say that the GPS fix is faster (not everybody agrees on that), somme change in the design of buttons, Primo 2.4 can manage POI's from several suppliers, the TMC ix definitily working better on 2.4.

As you say Nabi, no big differences between the 2 versions.

Thanks.

I have not noticed the gps fix is faster, while TMC is not working anyway on my present GPS device, except with the original software.
Also the difference between latest Primos is that newer build numbers are adaptions to certain devices, thus hardware/driver issues. That may result in some devices working better with a newer build or, on the contrary, with a previous build.
About the POI from several suppliers the only difference is that you can select what supplier's POI you see. In general the POI's should be the same, with some (very?) local differences. On Primo2.0 it is also possible to have the different supplier POI files in your content and you will see that some/most POI are double shown. Not a big deal when you just pick the largest POI file, that should be the most complete.

edit :
TomTomTeleAtlas POI : pick the Premium POI files
Navteq POI : pick the POI files plus the extendedPOI files.
POI files can be mixed (I mean NT and TT can exist together in the POI folder), unlike the content of the map folder

TMC works okay on my 2.4.

No major issues. Had about 2 memory exceptions but mostly fine. nabi, what did you change to avoid crashes?

In my case, TMC not working is a device matter.

Get the latest config file and I won't say crashes are forever gone, but since I regularly update global.cfg (http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?13758-Various-Global_cfg-s, latest post) I haven't had any crash. Hence my advise.
