Detecting internal TMC-receiver

Sun Mar 27, 2011 12:21 pm

On my mio moov Spirit the internal TMC-receiver works well when I use the Mio Software.
When I use iGO (8, primo1.1 or primo 1.2) however, it does not because the internal TMC-receiver can not be detected, whatever I put in sys.txt.
Browsing several forums, the problem seems to be that the port the internal TMC-receiver uses (COM1) is closed if the Mio software shuts down.
Is there a workaround so that this port will be opened is I use iGO ?
I'm not a great scripter at all, but it seems to me an issue that could be solved.
Suggestions are appreciated !

Have you tried using a skin on 8.3 and P1.1? Gurjon or others. Nothing yet for 1.2.

Yep, I use the Gurjon skin(s) on all versions of iGO (even the brandin.zip v6 on primo 1.2): the window shows up fine, autodetect TMC-receiver can be started but ends up with 'No TMC hardware found'. In the TMC-window everything appears, but the frequency is fixed on 0,0.

Take a look at post #9

Didn't work for me ...
It really seems to be the port that can not be accessed if the mio software is not running. For that reason also port-splitter does not work either.
Perhaps overruling the mio software by replacing it (or a part of it) may bring a solution ?

What unlock did you use?

First I tried MioPocket (didn.t work very well), than MioPocket Lite (worked OK) and now I'm using MioMoovUnclock (to be found at [Please Register or Login to download file] )

I managed to get TMC working on a PDA using HyperGPS by using these sys.txt entries, Are they similar to what is in yours?

[tmc]
enable_subscription="1"
saved_config_available="1"
saved_config_classname="NMEA_GPSTMC_ROYALTEK"
saved_config_portname="COM"
saved_config_port="2"
saved_config_baud="38400"
auto_band_search_up="1"
auto_tuning=1
saved_last_tuning_mode="1"

TMC refused to work with an error similar to yours without them.

Does your Mio unit feature an FM Transmitter as well as TMC?

@ Fatboyfun: trying to use HyperGPS is still an option I consider (I guess I should try version HyperGPS_WM6_B5.cab ?) but would make me more confident if I heard about positive results on a PNA. I asked for it on the, but no reply so far.
Did you give the option of replacing (parts of) the software any thoughts ? I would not mind if this would mean I can not use the mio software anymore for I basically bought the peace of hardware to use for running iGO on it together with TMC.

@ Yurbuh Yuggly: I guess not for it does not have BlueTooth capabilities.

I doubt hypergps will work on a pna as it's meant for pda witb fm radios, I am not a programmer so i wouldn't know how to replace any part of the application, What sys.txt entries have you got?

I tried really all sorts of entries in my sys.txt but none of them worked so far.
The problem is the fact the TMC-receiver cannot be found because it is closed down one way or another.

First, the file gpstmc.dll must be in every program folder.

Next try this: add to system.ini in the save folder:

[tmc]
saved_config_available="1"
saved_config_classname="NMEA_GPSTMC_GNSPORT"
saved_config_portname="COM"
saved_config_port="1"
auto_tuning="1"
saved_last_tuning_mode="1"

If this doesn't work, I fear the new Mio Spirit software cannot use TMC in Primo, iGo8, nor Amigo. In that case a proprietary protocol denies the NavNgo programs to handle TMC. A possible solution could be an external TMC.

The more and more i try to find a solution to this, I find hundreds of posts about the same problem, But no solution!

Thanks for all the efforts and suggestions ... unfortunately it did not work.
Just before giving up: is there a way to run iGO instead of MioSoftware by changing the names (e.g. rename iGO.exe to MioMap.exe) which might 'fool' the system and opens up the TMC-port while using iGO ?
