Good point.
Which is why I insinuated that 'upgrading' from 2.0 may not be a worthwhile thing to do on the torrent download page.
Most changes are purely cosmetic and minimal, but what DID change can affect other things. There are always certain 'bugs' with any truly new edition (especially one 3rd party add-ons are introduced into the mix), and these are usually solved over time. Sometimes many months.
Personally, I have no negative issues with 2.4, but that is not due to any magic or wizardry..mostly luck and maybe more compatible hardware. Others may have issues, and to those: Stick with 2.0 9.6.5xxx. Or be ready to try to solve individual issues yourself for a while.

I have a 480x272 pack with 128mb and have the same problem.

Try this:
Go to {Primo2}\ui_igo9\480_272, and move both poi_mapclose.bmp and poi_mapclose.spr to your PC as backup (removing them from the folder(s) on the device). They refer to rather odd and generic POIs and not of much use anyway. Then start Primo and see what happens when you go to scroll items in Map Settings>Place Markers.
Then report back what happens.

When I remove the files, the program crashes at startup with the failure ' can't open poi_mapclose.bmp'.

You said this:

So with those files in place, is the error you are getting as described in the first post:
mpourdas wrote:I get an error "failed to open poi_mapclose.spr"

Or something different?

Sun Feb 03, 2013 2:12 pm

Indeed, the error is the same as in the first post.

I get no such errors (at 480x272) at all. None.
Try the below pack directly off my device and known working.
If you still have issues, it is something else on your device. You may need to delete the Save folder.

Unrar on your computer, delete the entire ui_igo9 folder on your device, and replace with the downloaded ui_igo9 folder.
Then report back.

Your set is working good.
Thanks

Great.
This page:
Go-Primo-2.4-9.6.13-Complete-Torrent
Has been updated with the 'new' 480x272 POI pack (see the Special installation and trouble solving notes: section at the bottom) for those having any issues with the pack included in the Torrent...which seems to be not everybody, but there you go: sometimes differences in operation are hard to track down depending on unknown factors.

Testers Wanted!

I have edited the 800x480 pack in a way similar to the 480x272 pack...which seems to make it more compatible with Primo 2.4 (9.6.13.xxx) on some systems.
Unfortunately, I had to do it 'blind' since I have no WinCE device with an 800x480 resolution.
So...if you do..and have Primo 2.4 installed, please download the pack below, unrar it on your PC, delete the entire ui_igo folder on your device, replace it with the downloaded ui_igo9 folder, then try selecting POI's in Map Settings>Place Markers. And please report back if it works or not.

Press the THANKS button then refresh the page to see the link.

Even though I opened the thread, I eventually went back to Primo 2.0. Furthermore, I tried the Color POI Icon pack in 2.0 (where it is known to work) and even though I do like it, it made my system "less responsive" so I abandoned it (and btw, for the same reason I quit using dem files). I have left the device in the car, but I certainly owe to you and the forum some minimal contribution, so I will test what you ask tomorrow. In case I forget, please do not hesitate to PM me.

I tried the new pack with Primo 2.4 and the dimka 1.7.0 skin and I still get the same error as described in the first post of the thread. I am not sure if it helps, but there is no error with the default skin.

(This was more for testing as you requested. Again, I have settled myself with Primo 2.0 and without the pack.)

OK. Thanks very much for testing. Interesting about the skin/no skin error/no error. I had not even considered that connection.
Unfortunate since the POI choices/options are so much better with the diMka skin for customizing. I am now using skin version 1.71, and I wonder if that makes a difference? SOME version will likely 'fix' it. Also interesting that the issue seems to apply only to the 800x480 resolution skin. Something must be wrong in there compared to 480x272.

No difference with 1.71 downloaded from [Please Register or Login to download file] , I still get the same error.

OK. Thanks again for testing again.
I think it's time to 'give up' until a couple more revisions of the diMka skin, since it appears the fault is there...not with the POI pack itself.
Maybe it will get resolved in future skin editions...maybe not. It depends if the developers are aware of the 800x480 issue with (previously working) add-on POI packs. This particular pack originated with Stancy, but there are others.
