advise with igo onto x960 please

Postby Lostboy » Tue May 31, 2011 9:17 am

Hi
I have just dug my x960 out of the back of the cupboard where I last threw it after being told to turn right about 200 yards after the turn: I have had a go at catsmokeys tutorial for swapping the maps to igo. when I try to extract the files I get
CRC FAILED IN PRIMO 1.2/TTS_LOG\ENGLISHUS\SUSAN\SUSAN.16000.LOXMSX.BIN THE FILE IS CORRUPT. and UNEXPECTED END OF ARCHIVE. this is using winrar.

when I try to copy all the files onto my SD card then hard reset my x960 it says no maps found.
I have never tried doing this kind of thing before and am a bit lost.
am i using the right unpack tool.
do all the folders need to be unzipped on the card::confused:

Sounds like either a bad download or your using the wrong archive extract tool, Sometimes you need to use 7 Zip instead of Winrar or vice-versa.

Extract the Primo folder but don't unzip any of the files within it.

Maps are found in the ..\Primo\Content\Map folder and have a .fbl extension, There may be a basemap.fbl already in there, This is only for when you are zoomed right out, so you can see the whole country, You need maps that are compatible with Primo/8.3/R3

Is this a 320x240 device? You need to make a small edit to the data.zip.

If this is the Acer X960 Smartphone, the claimed resolution is 480 x 640 pixels, 2.8 inches.

Go into the data.zip using winrar (no need to unzip) and copy the problem file above from the ui_igo9\480_272 folder to the 320_240 folder, If it's in a sub folder make sure it goes in the same sub folder within the 320_240 folder.

Sorry it's a bit vague but i don't have a device to hand at the moment. There is a post somewhere around here with more detailed instructions.

You should not need a driver. What happens when you connect to PC by USB cable? It's possible the device just shows up in My Computer where you can access it. Otherwise, if your PC has a card reader (which is where you put iGO on the device??), you can take the card out, put in your PC card reader, and modify files or put your map files (maps are available all over the place including this forum) directly on the card (../content/map), then reload the card in your x960 and reboot it.

What is in ..\Primo\Content\Map ?
As far as i'm aware you just "work" on an sd card, you don't need to touch anything on the device, so device drivers are not required if you use a card reader.
What exactly happens when Primo starts?

in the map folder it has (Basemap.fbl) file only.
When primo starts I get to run through set up OK. When I land on Navigation Menu, I get the show map option but when I select it I just get a green land scape and blue sky but no roads display. I am able to zoom in and out and also get a GPS signal. when i click on my position it says cant find any road near my current position.

Well, all that is good. Very good. But you have no REAL map--the basemap.fbl is mainly for demonstration purposes or to show zoomed out generalities. But no good for any streets or navigation. At all.
So you need a map for your area (which is???). Look here:
http://www.navitotal.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?82-Maps-buildings-dem-POI

Don't bother with POI or DEM or anything like that for right now--just get a map (.fbl) for your area and make sure it works. You can add more stuff later.
