What is the defaul map folder/location for gmap data

Sun Jun 15, 2014 11:50 am

I recently purchased a new laptop running Win 8.1.
Installed Basecamp and Mapsource ok. Use Mapsource to create mapsets.
However, when I try and update using msi installer , it fails , so I´ve copied gmap file to necessary file location.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Maps

But when I do this the map appears in Mapsouce but not Basecamp.

To get Basecamp to work I have to use

C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\Basecamp\Maps

Is this correct ? It seems a bit silly to have 2 copies of the same file.

Any ideas ?

Thanx in advance

Life could be easy, if you open your eyes  :

  1. go to Tutorials section
  2. look at Tutorial: How To Install GMAP Folder To Mapsource, BaseCamp and MapInstall - the recommended path is: C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps
  3. note that Mapsource is a long time outdated program and not recommended for current maps and devices - use MapInstall to create your own map images
