What Garmin model should I buy (easiest to update)?

Postby kwsizer » Sun Nov 20, 2016 10:58 am

Hello,
I'm new to the board and especially to the Garmin brand.
Looks like Garmins are easier to update in comparison to Tomtoms, but what's the garmin model that's easiest to update with the maps I can find on your nice board here?

I'd like to avoid unpleasant surprises when I bring home my new navigator...

Thanks,
Gil

Buy a Garmin or TomTom with live time maps for Europe and you don,t have to bother to find a map.

Everything is a matter of money that you want to spend and after the usage that you want to do with it!
I can assure you that all the models are easy to upgrade maps just some of the new ones need to patch firmware first.

In reference to the comment above, I found the really new TomTom GPS's such as the Go 500 not patch able at all!

I'm looking at the Garmin Nuvi 50LM, can I update maps for that easily?

Thanks

Have you read post 2. TT 500 has live time maps and a nuvi 50LM has live time maps to.
you can update the 50LM with maps from this board if they are availble.

Yes I did but the Europe maps are $80 for a once off TomTom map and they do not get updated from that point, unless I pay more :( . Unfortunately I'm only entitled to 1 map with lifetime updates.

I'll try and find maps for the Garmin before I look to buy it...
