Thoughts on GPS V

Postby Mapmart » Mon Feb 07, 2022 2:04 pm

Hello everyone,

I was offered an old GPS V very cheap. I never had a handheld, so I wonder what to expect? Can I update the maps on it? How good - or bad - is the screen and overall performance? Not a lot of info online on this model.

I appreciate any thoughts or info on it.

Thanks!

The GPS V (introduction 2001) came with the Metroguide City Select map and Mapsource on DVD. It has limited internal memory (19 Mb) for map parts. Perhaps the City Navigator (OF version, not NT/NTU) will also work with this gps. Maps from openstreetmap (OSM) will also work. Connection was via serial cable to the PC. For usb you need a converter cable.
You can find more information on the site of Garmin. Check the latest software with WebUpdater.
More info is also on the site of a collector, it is in Dutch.
