Nuvi 3790, no 3D map or DME map detected on SD card

Postby spookynet » Mon Jun 27, 2011 6:44 am

Hi, I have a Nuvi 3790 with preloaded middle east maps, I recently added a new set of Europe maps (gmapsupp.img, gmap3d.img and gmapdem.img) to the "garmin" folder of a SD card. At the "Map Info" under Nuvi's settings, I get to see my Middle East maps (Main, 3D and DEM) but from the SD card, I only get to see the main Europe map only. I don't see co related tick options for "gmap3d.img nor gmapdem.img" I tried the same Europe "gmapdem.img" on my Origon 550, which works fine. Origon actually reads DEM files. one on the SD card and also in the one in the internal memory at the same time.

Why Nuvi can't read the same? How to get the my Europe DEM and 3D maps working form the SD card?

You try this if the map is on nuvi ?

Try this

continued : After initial testing found that following worked on SDcard"
\Map\mapname.img (where file name can be anything)
\Map\mapnamegmap3d.img (where file name can be anything)
\Map\mapnamegmapdem.img (where file name can be anything)

continued : After further testing with known Junction view intersection I found that Junction View only worked in the following folder location on SDcard"
\Garmin\JVC\originalname.JCV (Moved my original .JCV file to this location)

Further assumptions: that ASR files could be placed in SDcard\Garmin\ASR (not tested)

On 37xx you can have BOTH 2 folders on the sd card
--GARMIN folder that recognizes ONLY ONE: Gmapsupp.img file (very usefull when you want to put VEUR maps so that Homeport can read them)
--MAP folder that recognizes every name of a map with a suffix .IMG (like MAP folder on the unit)

That means almost no memory restrictions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I have the same issue and I dont have SD card for my nuvi 3970, where can i place the new files (gmapprom.img, gmap3d.img & gmaptz.img) for new map in the device itself.

Is it in \Map folder

or in \Garmin folder

first of all, you need to update your device software to the latest over garmin webupdater. the new maps should be in the \Map directory on the device.

I put gmapprom.img, gmap3d.img, gmapdem.img & gmaptz.img inH:\Garmin and they dont work.

then I moved them to H:\Map and they are working properly now.
