new toto Garmin - add new map?

Sat Dec 31, 2011 4:29 pm

Hi, I used to have a TomTom Go630 where I had added a patched map with the SD card. Now I have a nuvi 1390LMT with pre-installed North America map, and I am wondering if I can add a Europe map using the microSD slot?

Sure you can, simply download the unlocked image file and copy it into the folder "Garmin" on the SD.
If you use an unlocked image you can use the keygen to generate the .unl file you need to activate the map.
All pretty simple and straight forward, I suggest you have a look into the tutorials and follow the instructions provided in the map section.
Should be a matter of minutes after downloading the map ;)

edit by p!x: keygen, .unl file and activation are not necessary, if you use an unlocked image

Just bought a nuvi 1350 LMT and for past two days can't get european map on sd card to work. Have tried all tutorials without success. According to above I should just make a garmin folder on sd card and copy unlocked map to sd and it will work? That's all that needs to be done? If not that please help me with simple step but step instructions for getting a workable european map on a sd card. All help would be appreciated. Also own a tomtom and have no problem with installing maps. Hope to make this for my garmin also. Thanks to all for responses and suggestions.

Of course! Do you wondering, that Garmin is much easier than TomTom :D?
The map must be in .img format and must called gmapsupp.img - that's all!

changed name of garmine folder map to gmappsupp.img and it didn't work. Do you mean that i should change name of all maps to gmapsupp.img?

First you must say, which version you downloaded.

For directly use on device or SD card you must have the image version - this is only one file, normally called gmapsupp.img.

If you have a folder with many files (and subfolders), you have a mapsource version for installation on PC - this is not sensibly for beginners.

Thank you, thank you. I am now downloading the image version as I type. So I just take the image and copy to sd changing name to gmapsupp.img in a garmin folder and it should work? Will do what i just wrote and get back to you. I had downloaded the mapsource version. I guess I got screwed up reading the tutorials. Thanx again for the clarifiction which I am sure makes thing so much easier.

Thank you. Perhaps i missed it in the tutorials but if not someone should just write a simple procedure to do what you just stated. I downloaded the image, copied to SD and then inserted to garmin and it worked like a charm. Real easy. Easiest procedure around. Thank you again for your help and advice.
