Mobile XT question

Mobile XT question

Postby chas521 » Mon Feb 27, 2012 2:56 pm

On my Mio C320, I have Garmin Mobile XT in WinCE. Real Garmin devices are Linux-based. For my iGO programs, I have a US speedcam file in .txt format that was adapted from Garmin for iGO use. It works great. Is there any way that I can use the .txt file for Mobile XT and if so where would I put it?

You can use 3892 to convert iGO's speedcam.txt to .asc format...

Then use [Please Register or Login to download file] to batch convert the .asc fies to .csv

Then use [Please Register or Login to download file] to convert the .csv files to Garmin's .gpi format, You may need to include speedcam icons, PGPSW icons work (22x22 Bitmap, same name as .csv file but with .bmp extension.)

After all this you end up with a file called POI.gpi, Place this file in \{SDCard}\Garmin\POI\POI.gpi

Restart Garmin and now you have the same speedcams as iGO...

Long-winded way of doing it but it works.

Because Garmin is Linux-based and I would like the speedcams for my WinCE XT. I'm pretty sure the real Garmin speedcams wouldn't work because of the file difference.

If you had looked in the iGO section for speedcams you would have found this http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?5361-US-redlight-cameras Use depositfiles for the download.

You are wrong. The OS doesn't matter in this case. Garmin use *.gpi file for all kinds of POI on Garmin devices as well as Software solutions independently if Operating system is iOS, Symbian or WinCE.

To create such *.gpi file (if not ready available) you need csv or gpx file for the coordinates and bmp file for symbols, like they are available in various databases (e.g. SCDB) and Garmin POI Loader for Windows or MacOS to make the gpi file.

No need to go to all of the hassle of converting Igo speedcams - the authentic or "real Garmin speedcams" will work BUT only in some versions of WinCe XT .

If speedcam files are going to work at all - you need to be using a XT version which supports gpi files - Win Mobile Version XT 5.52 does support speedcams. But so far as I could ascertain most other 5.0_ versions did not - after all - these versions are all hacks and never run full functionality.

Lastly, another reason as to why it is better not to "convert" Igo speedcams - Garmin SCDB is updated almost ever week or so whereas the Igo ones are usually more dated ( at least where I live). In fact I sometimes do the opposite viz convert Garmin gpi to text to use in Igo!

:)

Cool. Now what do I do with them? My Garmin XT is 500.20wp [I think]. I can't find 5.52. Also will that version work with WinCE 5?

Extract POI.gpi and place inside a folder called POI in the Garmin directory...

..\Garmin\POI\POI.gpi

Worked on every Garmin device i've "upgraded" including the WinCE and Symbian version.
