Installing Europe map on new Garmin nuvi 40

Postby ladillex » Mon Oct 15, 2012 12:52 pm

Helllo,
1- is it possible to install on a sd card the europe nt garmin maps on a nuvi 40 without having european preloaded maps ever before?
the garmin europe maps i found havnt been bought from garmin website nor a retail store...
2- How can i install the junction view .jcv (just downloaded) file for the new map and the sd card? (which folder should be installed in?) and do i need to delete any previous jcv file in the unit?
3- must the jcv file be the same as the map?? i mean if the map is europe 2013.10 the jcv MUST be 2013.10 or the 2013.20 will also work?

thank you very much!!

  1. Yes, of course you can use other maps than preinstalled region, also City Navigator Europe 2013.20 versions from our New Maps section here!
  2. I'm not sure, if Junction View on your device works from SD card too. Try map image (gmapsupp.img) in [SD]\Garmin\ and JCV in [SD]\Garmin\JCV\.
  3. JCV must be right from map version - you can't take jcv from 2013.10 with map 2013.20.

Hello, thx for ur quick reply... so if my device Garmin Nuvi 40 cant read the jcv file from my sd card what else can i do? i have a macbook air with osx mountain lion.

The other thing is that i read in some forum elsewhere that if my unit didnt have preinstalled europe maps i cant install new europe maps downloaded free from internet thats why i asked

Thank you

Hi, i have another question it would be great if anybody could help me
I do always get two JCV files with the maps, 1. Hi-Res and 2. Low-res, how do i know which of these files should i install in the sd card for my unit? its a Garmin Nuvi 40 with a 4.2" screen and 480 x 272 pixels

Thank you very much

I don't know, why it should not be possible to install Europe maps on your nuvi 40.
Screen with 480x272 pix is low resolution, but mostly high-res JCV is working too, but needs more space.

Hi, i just got this from another forum...
On Nuvi 40 you need split screen JCV, for example for Europe map ,you need NTU map version and D3589040A.JCV for nuvi 30, 40, 50

do you think thats true?ive always got good advice from navitotal and i really trust what you guys tell me... according to them i need to install 2013.21 and the jcv that came with that map... i dont know what to do now lol... any advice?

thank you!

All actual Europe nuvi models come originally with Unicode map version (CN EU NTU 2013.21), but can also use "normal" NT maps. But what hinders you from taking this map: http://www.navitotal.com/showthread.php?10648-City-Navigator-Europe-NTU-2013.21

hi, i bought my nuvi40 in the us and came with north america preloaded, the reason i want to install europe 2013.20 its because i already got it and i dont want to download a new one again becasue of all the mirrors etc.... but my question and my doubt is... will europe 2013.20 work with jcv D2504090A.JCV (full screen larger size) and D3084060A.JCV, (split screen)?? ive been told nuvi 30/40/50 have special jcv files, have you ever heard of that?

thank you

ok another question lol
i also have a nuvi 2455... which jcv file will work with the europe 2013.20 map?
thank you!

You always have to use the JCV that comes with the map version. That means for CN EU NT 2013.20 All and resolution of 480x272 you have to take D3084060A.JCV. And it has no split screen. If you want split screen JCV you have to take the Unicode map (2013.21) with a corresponding JCV.

For nuvi 2455 applies basically the same: originally Unicode map but NT version also possible and you have to use a map corresponding JCV.

Bytheway: Why are junction view is so important for you? For my opinion this pictures are nice, but absolutely not necessary for navigation!
