Help Nuvi 1200

Hi Looking for some help updating a nuvi 1200 for my mate or a simple step by step i could follow to load a map of USA onto the device. First time trying to do it and i have no idea what or how to start.

It is easy! you just download the map that you are intersted for better unlocked one and juct copy the files on the device or the sd card of the device!
First connect it on the USB device and see where are the maps they should be either the name of gmapp.img or gmasupp.img etc or in a directory map with their name.
in case that your device is too old may not support map size over of 2gb then we may discuss again what you have to do

The Unit doesnt have any sd card so i assume the map is preloaded onto there. i cannot find any files with that name anywhere is the directory on the device.

Sometimes there are in a hidden directory named .system

i have no idea what map i need there seems to be a million different parts for it. if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what i need for map of usa for a nuvi 1200 i will be forever greatful

If you cannot do not even a simple copy maybe you have to find somebody else to do it for you!
I repeat first you find the map with the region you want there are unlocked maps of USA on internet even here on our site ! then you try to copy the file on your device under the name of gmapprom.img replacing the existing one if you cannot find it then you have to change your windows options in order to see hidden files and directories then most probably in a directory .system should exist your file.
I am not sure if your device because i do not have a such support or not files bigger than 2GB so you have to try it the USA file is around 4GB in case that your device does not have enough space or cannot recognize the file that you had coped then we have to proceed with another procedure.

The preload Map on Nüvi 1200 is located inside folder \.System (hidden, you should enable some option in your Files System to View it) and is named gmapprom.img
From post 1 of viewtopic.php?f=88&t=20453 you have to download the 5 parts of gmapprom.img (the Links are include in NEW VERSION OF Map).
Then you have only to replace the Old Map with the New one.
Nüvi 1200 manage Map greater than 2 GB without problems.
That's All, you don't need any other file.
