It's not useful to split & join maps with GMapTool. It is only makeshift if no MapSource/gmap-version avaiable.

Use gmap-version to create your individual image with MapSource or MapInstall.

cheers,
don't get the drift though, what is e.g. gmap-version?

never splitted before and used gmaptool once
because it sounded so neat and easy in the www
if you want to make things smaller...

any link to a site which clarifies/guides your suggestion for dummies?

In New Maps section you will find the most important maps (e.g. City Navigator Europe, America, Australia) as Image version as well as MapSource version, also called CD/DVD version or gmap version (because of the folder name extension .gmap).

With MapSource/CD/DVD/gmap version installed on your PC/Mac you can create your own arrangements of map tiles from one or different maps using the tools Garmin MapSource or Garmin MapInstall.

Some time ago the CD/DVD versions of Garmin maps came mostly with the program MapSource included (from there the name MapSource version has been established). Now the original versions of this maps come with Garmin BaseCamp and MapInstall included, with which you have about the same possibilities than with MapSource.
