Garmin Nuvi 650 touchscreen problem

I have a Garmin Nuvi 650. I mistakenly copied the vehicle folder to the SD card under the Garmin folder on the sd card. Since doing this the touchscreen will work when first turned on. After a while (minutes) the touch screen will no longer respond. If I turn off the device for a few hours or overnight the touchscreen works but again does not respond after a few minutes. The battery was not holding a charge so I just replaced it and now it holds a charge. Any ideas how to correct this issue?

Update: well the touch screen was bad. I purchased a new one on ebay for $7.50 and received instructions to replace it on another site contirbutor (thanks to Steve), you can download them here

I found that using a credit card to open the case worked better.
