Hi,

My Garmin Street Pilot uses a SD card of 1.86 GB. The new map I wanted to install (City Navigator North America NT 2019.30) is 1.99 GB and of course it's too large for the SD card.

Wondering if there is a way to make the gmapsupp.img file just a little smaller & how please?

(Previously installed the older CN North America NT 2018.10-Lower 49 States map successfully as it was just the correct size for the 1.86 SD Card.)

I tried to open the gmapsupp.img file to see if I could tell what I could delete to get it's size down, but nothing I tried reads it.

if you do not want to buy a new sd card you should use mapsource map on a pc and with the mapistall you choose the areas of the map that you want and fit in the sd card

My Garmin can only take a 2 GB SD card unfortunately, but I'll look into getting that Mapsource program, thanks so much!

you just need to download the map for PC is called usally Map for Mapsource then you use Basecamp and Mainstall to choose the areas you want to install it takes few minutes but it is working

I've searched thru the forums and don't see a PC map for the USA. Doing board searches for Mapsource an Mapinstall came up confusing and empty handed also. I'm usually pretty good with software but this making smaller map stuff is totally different than what I typically work with and I don't understand any of it.

Here you can find all the maps for USA this one with the MS means map for PC then you may use thru Basecamp the install to choose the areas you want

Thank you I'm understanding a little more now.

The very first MS file though I tried to download, I'm getting this notice:
"The file was removed by administrator
CN NorAm NT 2019.30_MS.part1.rar"

Guess to be expected as it was posted last month.

Thanks again for your help At least now I know what to look for and will try again on the next update before the files get wiped out.
