Cannot unlock maps message

Sat May 01, 2021 6:20 pm

This is driving me crazy. My Zumo is giving the "Cannot unlock Maps" message, even if all maps are removed from it! (Could it be something to do with the Demo Map? As far as I know it's still on the device.)

It has the patched firmware, if I do put an unlocked map on it it works! But still says it can't Unlock the maps....

Does anyone have an idea how I can get rid of the message?

BertImpetigo wrote:I have two Zumo 590, one with LM subscription, one not. So the one without comes up with no maps shown in Express. If I edit the XML file and change the ID on that one to the ID of the one that DOES have Lifetime maps, it then allows me to install the maps on it, but gives the "Cannot unlock maps" message on startup. I've also tried gimgunlock.exe on the resulting .img file, but still get the "cannot unlock maps" message. Am I missing something? (Zumo does have the patched firmware)

Zumo 590, Branded as "Harley-Davidson Roadtech ?
Swapping the device ID from the LM device to the NON LM device will update it, BUT all the .img files will be Locked.
If you remove the SD card and you still have this error then there appears to be a locked .img file on the device use the latest [Please Register or Login to download file]
Screenshots of the map details or the device .system folder contents might help

Garminnuvi, you are a lifesaver once again! Here's what I've done (this will remind me next time - I have a terrible memory!)

1) Edit the .xml file and change the ID to that of the ordinary Zumo
2) Make the .xml file read only
3) Let Express recognise it as the ordinary Zumo, and it will allow install (to the SD card as only 4GB on the RT Zumo) the maps
4) find every .img file on the Zumo and on the SD card, and run them through gimgunlock
5) restart - still got "cannot unlock maps" message
6) repeat step 4
7) restart - success
8) edit.xml file to return the ID to the correct one.

Now having got the map installed, if I look at the list in myMaps, it has multiple duplicate entries, and I'm assuming that is unimportant?

CN Europe NTU
2021.30 ALL North (ticked)

CN Europe NTU
2021.30 ALL South (ticked)

CN Europe NTU
2021.30 ALL South (ticked)

CN Europe NTU
2021.30 Foursquare (ticked)

Europe DEM (unticked)

Should all those duplicate entries remain ticked?

Previously I also had a 3D folder under the Garmin Folder containing a single file gmap3d.img - I don't seem to have that this time anywhere, but I do seem to have .jcv files Should I add the folder and the file (I see a link to it on the forum)?

Next step is to add Australian and North America supp files and speed cams..... which I previously had.

So the error has gone ?
It should not show multiple duplicated maps in Mymaps
Your devices do not use gmap3d.img file.

Yes, error gone, all working happily (despite the multiple duplicated maps in myMaps).

Hmmm... I certainly recall 3d buildings before (maybe that was on an earlier Zumo though..) Or are they built in to the installed maps?

Many thanks for your assistance as always, GarmanNuvi!
