Lost access to SD

Postby gologen » Sun Aug 04, 2013 3:33 pm

Hi all.
I have chinese/noname GPS. WINCE 5.0. I tried MioPocket Mini 4.0. Everything was work fine. After i uninstalled MioPocket Mini 4.0 i lost access to SD.
So. Device boots OK. But i can't start "Navigation" and "Music", "Video" are empty(i have on SD).
When i connect USB i see on the computer two Removable Disks - one small contains "__TFAT_HIDDEN_ROOT_DIR__" and other empty (asks insert a disk on double click). If i insert SD in computer - everything ok. I can read and write. When i eject SD from GPS i hear "ding" from speaker. When insert - nothing.

Where can be a problem?
Thanks.

The problem is pretty simple: you installed MIOPOCKET.
This piece of crap modifies the registry and only devices listed to be fully compatible will survive this.

A hard reset should fix it.

There might be a reset to default option in the device menu.

Or failing that...

Restore your flash drives to the state they were in before miopocket was installed.

Buried deep within miopocket is a little tool called something like hard reset.exe

Boot your device to a desktop or explorer window, and run the little tool.

This should be enough to reset the registry.

But works only if the device is using a default registry in a protected memory area - only a few devices offer that.
If registry entries were changed by Mio to a state that affects the working of the CE system installed you are basically screwed.
Miopocket is presented as a great piece of software but the warnings for unsupported devices are well hidden.
The makers seem to assume MIO indicates enough :(

I can't boot gps to a desktop or explorer. I get only start screen.
"Navigation" addressed to shell.ini on the SD. But device doesn't see SD.
"Factory Reset" on "System Info" screen doesn't help

Are you able to find the Rom files? A reflash will fix the registry.

Over USB I see only 1.76 Mb disk with folder "__TFAT_HIDDEN_ROOT_DIR__". Inside four files gpspara0(1,2,3).bin
Second disk shown not inserted

where can I find Rom files?
