Check this post and download "Image: Full Coverage of North America", both locked and unlocked. Download all 5 parts for each and use WinRAR to assemble 5 parts into one .img file (in the end you will have two .img files).

Once you have locked .img file, place it onto USB stick and try to update. See if you get any further. If you do, you will either get another error or being asked for unlock key. That's good sign. We can guide you how to generate unlock key for your unit, or you can try another update, but this time with unlocked version of .img file that you are gong to download in previous step.

Great! Thanks for this recommendation! Since it'll take a while to download from this. I'll give it a shot and report back when I am able!

Please do. If you succeed it would make many Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep people happy.

Oh, BTW, you can install MapSource update even if you don't have previous version. Download latest (and, sadly, last ever) version of MapSource [Please Register or Login to download file] . Change extension from .exe to .rar. Use WinRar to extract content. Just forget about setup.exe that's there. Its only purpose is to give you headache by checking if previous version is installed. Instead, find file with .msi extension (MSmain.msi I think) and double-click on it. That's the MapSource main installation program. It won't check for previous version and it will install complete version of MapSource.

One you have it installed, go to this post. It contains modified version that allows you many nifty things, like being able to save your custom .img file to any location, not just Garmin device, etc. Just overwrite originally installed mapsource.exe with patched one, and you are all set.

Hi all

here is a tutorial how to update your Uconnect RB5

First step:
Download the img file from the web.
for exemple: "Garmin CN North America NT 2013.40 IMG Maps"
If needed extract it on your pc some where.

Second step
If the map is locked use gimgunlock.
To unlock just drag and drop the img file onto the first exe file.
this step isn't neccesary if you used "Garmin CN North America NT 2013.40 Unlocked IMG Maps"

Third step
use Gmaptool.
add files ****.img then click Info.
you wil get Data Mps
exemple:
Data MPS
V: CN North America NT 2013.40 (0)
F: PID 1, FID 2855, CN North America NT 2013.40

Fourth step
Then make a Garmin folder on a thumb drive and put the img in the Garmin folder. Image name must be rename in "gmapprom.img"
Plug the thumb drive into the usb port of your car and turn the car on. Sometimes it takes a couple tries for it to see the drive. When it does it says “Validating Update”. When its ready it will say that it has found a newer map update do you want to proceed?. Click yes and it will tell you to go to Garmin web site (which you do not need to ). So just click ok. Then you will have to enter a one of the 25 digit keys.

Last step
Use Jetmouse.
Put your unit id at the top. Down at the bottom click the down arrow (select map product) and click custom mapset. In the little box that opens mapid or FID = 2855 and PID = 1 other two leave blank. Then click ok. Then click the bottom generate button a few times and write down a few keys.

Put the 25 digit keys and press enter.

After that it will take about 45 minutes to reflash the map.

You have now your Garmin at the last map version.

Great! But that's map only. What about Junction Views, 3D buildings, Automatic Speech Recognition, Routes? Will they be updated if you put them on thumb drive? Otherwise, you get new map but everything else is out of sync.

The only possibility is to update the map. For 3d or else no way.
All the function will work but you can't add more function until you find how the flash the garmin firmware.

I you buy the update you will have the same (only maps).

But Uconnect RB5 does have Junction view and Speech recognition. Once you update map, these two features will be out of sync, since they get updated with every map release.

Besides, you mention in step one "unlock" and still in the end to use Jetmouse keygen. If map is unlocked in first step, why does it need key?

Big THX innursery,

your post helped a lot.

My problem is, i want to update to a map from a different region. MiddleEast is installed but i need the European Map. Is it somehow possible to change the Map so the Uconnect eats it?

I update my uconnect since 2011 and I never have any trouble.
I add the JCV folder on my thumb drive too but I don't know if it upgrade it.

You need to have a key for installing the maps even if it's unlocked.

Hi... I tried many times to upgrade but always appears the following error
5383

Can someone help me?

Few people noticed that map update works only if map for identical region is provided. Looks like original map is Brazil only, and your new map is of all South America.

Just to post update. I "unlocked" map first, and placed gmapprom.unl file with correct unlock code on USB key, alongside with gmapprom.img. Update went through and it didn't ask me for my key again. At the end it reported an error, but after reboot it is showing new map.

How to make USB Flash correct unlock code?

Tue May 07, 2013 3:46 pm

Activation code is not a problem, it`s enough to use Jetmouse to generate it.
When you have Uconnect System CTP13, it will not ask for any code, but it definately will if your system is CTP2012 (checked on Fiat Freemont, not sure about Dodge)

Everything works great for me (currently updated to 2013.41, previously to 2013.40) apart from the Junction View.

I placed the bigger JCV file in JCV folder and the Validation and Update itself goes flawlessly. The lane assist (upper left-hand corner) displays arrows but no junction view at all.

Just a while ago I tried to make an update USB with JCV file replaced with the smaller one (136.16MB) but after "Validating Update" I get error message on black background or message about map update failure with OK button. So probably the bigger JCV file is the proper one for UConnect, but how to make it active on the display ... ?

Anybody has managed to get Junction View working on UC 8.4 ?

Any ideas ?

Tue May 07, 2013 6:30 pm

Nope. Same here. Once you upgrade map you lose junction view. I tried bigger file only. On next update I'll try smaller one.
