Truck GPS unit recommendation

Postby lofty » Mon Jul 22, 2013 6:41 pm

Hello,

I'm searching a GPS system for a truck driver without many computer knowledge. He currently uses a Garmin 1490T and he likes its interface, but had a few problems because of bad guidance.

I checked a few Garmin truck units but seem almost twice as expensive as the 1490T (around 250 euros on amazon.de). So any other cheaper option, even getting a unit from another maker and installing the truck software/maps would be welcome. The budged is around 150 euros, maybe a little more.

The GPS unit will be used only in Europe, mainly western Europe.

Thank you!

FWIW

I do own a Medion device. It's not that hard to set up another software on it, esp. knowing that the original Gopal software s*cks. The devices are not that expensive and when you could go for a WinCE 5 one, certainly not the WinCE 6 based **60 range, you could possibly enjoy TMC. I am saying this because those **60 devices (which are the latest) have a Amaryllo TMC chip inside that only works on Gopal and with some tricks on some (?) Navigon software; Okay: so far, that is until someones solve the issue.

But it's easy to put Primo on it on the WinCE 5 and on the WinCE 6 ones. The point being this - I am no truck driver and can not acknowledge the following - I have read several times that Primo 9.6.13.xxxxx performs extremely well on truck routing.

I bought an unbranded truck nav on ebay. It runs Igo Primo on WinCE platform. It only cost me 64.99, and it works really well. If u want the Seller ID, message me.

Thanks, but I'll buy something from a local shop. I like to see it before I buy it.

Does Igo Primo have truck maps?

Thanks!

iGO (and primo) does not have specific truck maps like a Tomtom does, all you need is any mapset and the .ftr truck restriction file, which goes in the map folder.
You will also find all versions of primo support truck routing by changing the vehicle type.
