Anti-virus threats

Postby boonergooner » Sat Apr 13, 2013 11:46 am

Hi all, I just ran a Super anti-spyware scan on my PC, it came up with a list of threats that mainly seem to be files in the folders that I have downloaded for my Tomtom via Navitotal, are they dangerous or are they "false positives"? Thanks for you anticipated input!

I don't see anything related to Navitotal, so what exactly are you refering to?

First of all, there are NO viruses/malwares on Navitotal whatsoever. You must have picked up those questionable files elsewhere. Delete them, restart your computer, go to Navitotal only, download a file and run your Super anti-spyware again and see if anything pops up.

Maybe it would also help to put the security into the hands of some software that has a known name ;)
There are free alternatives that offer at least some reputation....

Ok, can a Mod please ban Chas521 for the violation of the advertising rules? ROFL
But joking aside, if one wants to be really save a virtual machine is recommended.
Even is something bad happens it stays contained, even without any form of protection ;)

Boo! BTW, Malwarebytes has a freeware software version download. No cost at any time.

If in doubt I upload to Virustotal.
In case a real thread is confirmed I run the program in my sandbox.
Only very hard cases end up in the virtual PC.
My last infection is about 5 years ago and I do use quite a few "gray" programs.

One thing that is almost more important than virus or malware protection is a proper surf protection.
There are just too many attacking websites, and especially the ads are of concern.
Most providers include the ads without checking the content and refuse any liability for infections.

There will never be a perfect protection as long a user does not what he is doing on the net and his PC ;)

Look at "Ghostery" for FF as an add-on. You can get rid of any tracking sites. It's rated high.

EDIT: I think it can be used for other browsers as well.
