It's best to have a connection before driving.
What you should know is that signal strength will vary based on many factors: clouds rain, trees, buildings, etc.
My problem to better answer your question is that I have no Becker device and Becker iGO may differ a lot from normal iGO (looks, functionality (where are in the menu is ...)). Besides, my resolution don't fit Beckers build, so I can't even simulate it.
Try to find in your menu the GPS screen, On that screen, click settings, on the next screen, disable gps, wait a second or 5, enable gps.
One thing, when the GPS receiver is found, but no satellite lock can be accomplished, then possibly the settings are wrong, the COM port is correct, but not the baudrate.
In system.ini file, which is located in the save folder, the port and baud that is set, can be found. Thus my question. I think you deleted the save folder, but made a copy.
Also, did you make a backup before you did follow my advices in the other thread? Then you can not only refind the port and baud set by the update, but compare also to the original (this one should be the only correct one)
Finally: Did you make any changes to sys.txt?

Before the update, at home, I could tested with any address that was a satellite connected with my device, and now...it has been switched on more than 8 hours and any satellite has picked it. It's surprising.
On my Becker there isn't a GPS screen, and on the main view, you can read: SELECT DESTINATION, SETTINGS and TO THE MAP.
If you want to know the GPS data, you must: SELECT DESTINATION---->ENTER DESTINATION (the address)----> then appears scree on you can read: "WITHOUT GPS". And down:"THE CALCULATION BEGINS WHEN THE DEVICE ONE GPS. CHOOSE THE LAST POSITION TO CALCULATE FROM THE LAST KNOWN POSITION".
Then you have two choices: the last position or cancel. Clearly you select the last position.
So appears the map screen with the correct address and at the right down corner you can see a little square button. If you click on, you open a menu with this options: ROUTE, MAP, GUIDE, NIGHT/DAY.
If you click on MAP, you get another menu: 2D, MAP VIEW, 3D BUILDINGS, POSITIONAL DATA.
If you click on POSITIONAL DATA, you open the next menu: ON MAP, SAVE, GPS DATA and COUNTRY DATA.
So...in the GPS DATA's choice you get: GPS RECEPTION---->WITHOUT GPS; and down: SATELLITES--->0/0. You don't have option to modify these settings...only choice is to close this screen.
There isn't another way to see the GPS DATA.

:(
I see. Or not see.
Can you look in system.ini and find port and baud?
Then publish (copy/paste) your sys.txt here.

Thu Mar 31, 2011 6:46 pm

[gps]
port=1
baud=57600
devicename_template="VSP%d:"
maximise_baud=0

And the sys.txt:
[device]
type="BECKER_Z098"

May be this is important:

DEVICE SPECIFIC CONFIGURATION

info_names="BECKER Z201 (Ermine II) PNA"

[debug]
nortc=1

[dynamiccompressor]
compressor="1"
; 300 Hz at 22050 Hz sampling
a0="60160"
thrs="24703"
ratio="8"
gain="9"

Hi nabi,
I don't make any change to the sys.txt, anytime

Fri Apr 01, 2011 7:23 pm

Excuse me...but where is the page number 3 of this thread? It has disappeared...

Fri Apr 01, 2011 8:04 pm

And several posts have disappeared...what's happened, nabi? This is not the true third page...UNBELIEVABLE...COULD SOMEONE GIVE ME THE ANSWER...

Sat Apr 02, 2011 4:42 pm

As life goes on, I wasn't active on the forum today.
About the third page missing: the webmaster was forced to restore a backup and this way a half day of posting is lost.

I remember you did an update, after replacing your iGO with one you downloaded from this site.
But it was an official update (Naviextras Toolbox I think) and this is absolutely wrong!!
Because you replaced an official build with an unlocked one, then updated.
Can you at least tell what is updated?

Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:22 pm

Yes nabi, you're right. I've made a big mistake. And, may be, permanent error. The only thing that I can tell you about the official update is the name: Becker Z201 SR3 Update. I know anything else about.
Has it solution?

Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:33 pm

I hope.
I also hope you have the original files and the ones you downloaded from this site.
First I would set the original back and test the device. Maybe check the manual how to reset to factory default? In any case, delete the save folder. If then the GPS works, you could redo the update and replace the original files with the downloaded files.

I've installed the original build on my device and, in a few minutes, I've checked that was detected by 6 satellites.
Then, I'm going to try the save folder (I wasn't lucky the first time, because I deleted it in several times but come back).

Sun Apr 03, 2011 7:39 pm

nabi...it's impossible. I've tried to delete the save folder for many times, and always appears(including "reset" and "hardreset"). Like Fatboyfun said, it was re-created every time I deleted. How can I do it????, is there any way to delete the save folder?

Sun Apr 03, 2011 7:54 pm

I said to delete the save folder to be sure all wrong settings are gone. Do not worry when it comes back. As long as the settings are correct after it comes back, it's okay. The save folder should be there, but with the correct settings ;)

Anyway, GPS works?? Great !! :thumbup:

Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:00 pm

Yes, the device works perfectly...then I can reupload it with the files you give me???

Sun Apr 03, 2011 8:15 pm

Yes, you can.
But I would not replace the data.zip, unless really necessary. Replace the license and the .exe, test. It should work without replacing the data.zip.
