Primo Android 9.6.7

Postby Yurbuh Tuggly » Fri Aug 10, 2012 4:23 pm

The 240x320 resolution is very experimental...there are bound to be issues (it is not an official release) such as things not fitting. As you found out with the keyboard input (which was designed for higher resolutions). There may be no known fix at this time. Resolutions smaller than 480x800 will always have problems unless an official release comes from NNG for that resolution (which may be unlikely).
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Yeah, it's a nice bit of kit. They did a very good job of mirroring the look and operation of the WinCE version. And that most content (maps, speedcam files, etc) is fully compatible is also convenient.

I did follow the directions for TTS, but the option for "TTS Pro" is grayed out on the "Sound and Warnings" Menu. Under "Voice Language", I see only the two default English US voices (Dave & Jason), even though I did install the small file I d/l'ed in content/voice. As I said before, I likely won't miss it.

My only regret is a little ironic. Now that I've got Primo running on two devices, I realize how slow my 4.3" Chinese Generic PNA is. I thought it was pretty awesome...until yesterday.

edit: TTS now working. I had inadvertently copied the file into iGo/Content, not content/voice. Now, I need to figure out how to stop the unit from going totally silent when it makes a BT connection with my truck. I do want BT for calls obviously, but I'd still like to hear SMS notifications and other sounds from the phone itself. I know that's beyond the scope of this forum. I'm heading over to XDA to see if I can figure this one out.

Thanks to everyone here (especially YT) for the usual friendly, quick assistance.

:rofl_mini:
Not the first time I've heard such a comment. Most Smartphones have VAST quantities of memory and Speed-Of-Light processors compared to even high quality GPS stand-alone devices. On a typical GPS device, a 300Mhz processor and 128MB Ram is considered pretty good. On a Smartphone such a configuration would likely be headed for the bin. Or a trade-in deal on a better phone.

As far as the TTS (if you want to monkey with it--TTS is kinda cool--as long as you have <any> TTS voice.zip file in ../content/voice, AND you have a compatible TTS engine and voice installed and active on the phone (I know Pico/Google and SVOX work for sure), it should work.
Some people have had to experiment with different Android voice engines, and some get lucky the first time. VooDoo Logic says the voice languages must match between what is on the phone and what is in the Primo folder, but some others report even that is not necessary. Try a different {TTSvoice}.zip in the ../content/voice folder just for the heck of it. Or put them all in if you like...no harm in that.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

So, there is no trick for this for while?

Not that I am aware of that actually works...and I have no 240x320 device to test things on.
If everything is working EXCEPT the keyboard, that's good. You may have to Google around for a fix. Just be careful of what may be suggested to do..you don't want to break the install if it's working.

Is it just me or is the sys.txt file missing from the various download locations listed above? Can someone please tell me where the sys.txt file is in the Primo folder? Or, where I could get a copy. After installing the primo.apk in ICS, and after clicking on the IGO icon to run it, I get a screen asking me to "Please insert your SD card with Primo Folder, which of course I used to run the apk and is inserted.

See post #60 in this thread.
Which version you use depends if your phone is rooted or not. If it is, use the 'main' version and, after installation, a mirrored sys.txt will appear in the main Primo folder on the SD Card. If your phone is not rooted, you must use the APK for 'troubled' phones near the bottom of the first post. In this case, your folder name is "iGo" and there is no visible sys.txt, and it cannot be edited.

Either your device may have 2 "SD Cards" for a path, or the folder name is wrong.

PS...if you are using A2SD, Link2SD or similar on your phone, you could try going into Settings>Apps>Primo and moving to Phone. Just in case the path is affected when moved to SD.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

Done and working on an Android 4.0.4 - 7" Slate PC 800 x 480 with TTS. Looks fantastic. 5 Stars to Yurbuh Tuggy et al. Simply changed Primo folder to iGO, and added the other Primo.apk: presto!

There is one little issue though, after I shut down iGO, and re-start it, I have to go through setup again, each and every time - i.e. language, voice, record a log, etc. Other than that, it works the way it should. Seems like a database issue; any ideas?

It's somehow an inability to read/write to the Save folder on the SD Card.
After a shutdown, see if there is a Save folder under iGo/Primo, and check the contents.
Then startup and shutdown again and see if those contents have changed...or have the current date and time instead of being 'older'.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

There is no Save folder on the SD card; the folder name is iGO with content, license, branding.ziip, data.zip and Primo.apk inside; also the path to the SD card is: /mnt/extds/iGO.

As you know, I used the apk for troubled phones because iGO would not load after launch, and we did fix that. Now it doesn't remember the settings.

Grandstar wrote:There is no Save folder on the SD card

That is the problem...settings cannot be saved without a Save folder..which should be generated during the install and first startup.

Grandstar wrote:/mnt/extds/iGO

That is also part of the problem...Primo looks for a path: /mnt/sdcard. Are you sure your device does not have such a path...to another location (like an INTERNAL SD Card)? If so, move everything there.
But that's just my opinion..I could be wrong.

I moved Primo into mnt/sdcard, which is one of two internal storage sites. I now have a sys.tx file, but when I run Primo it gets to Select Language, I do so, hit done, and iGo closes after a moment of thinking.
